just bought a zzr250 1991 model

Hi all,
New to this site and owning a kawasaki can anyone tell me is there any major problems i need to know about my zzr250 1991 model and how about the services i need to do any answers would be great

Change the oil for good stuff right away ;)
Do it yourself, it's a piece of piss and change the filter too.
Oh and remember that just because only 2% of accidents happen over the posted limit....................

Welcome aboard mate!
The zzr250 is pretty much bullet proof, provide you do all the normal maintenance!Treating your fuel every now and then does heelhe carbys!Maybe the fork seals will need replacing(oil will weep from the fork wipers)Change oil and filter every 6,000 k/m and replace sparkplugs evry 10,000 k/m

I just changed the oil and filter together who ever change it before use a honda filter and rubber o ring
T4 15w-50 oil is what kellen kawasaki sold me
Is there any other oil i should use, my bike has 61,000 clicks on it.

I have not done the plugs yet
Fork seals look pretty good so far
today i put in a fuel cleaner in and in the next week or so i will be getting a carby service
Whats the best fuel ulp or premium i travel to the army barracks at morebank from penrith 5 day a week

When they start slipping in medium/higher gears. You are more likely going to need to adjust the clutch cable due to cable stretch than the clutch giving up the ghost.

You will certainly know when they need renewing ;)
Old ZZR1100 was slipping like a bastard towards the end

it is slipping in medium/ high I will get a new cable.
i went to power on the other day in 4th gear and all it did was slip and then it grabed and took off

you can also get some new springs.. there are aftermarket ones which are heavier duty than stock.. helps ya eke the last bit of life out of the plates :)

I have brought new friction plates, new steel clutch plates, new clutch cable, new springs (standed), new oil and filter and plugs
I was thinking because it's an older bike with 61,000 on it and i have no record of any services on the bike i gut change very thing and start from scratch
Can i buy the heavy duty springs at the bike shop or some other place can u point me in the right place.
also will the heavy duty springs wreck my new clutch plates any help would be great before i put it all together.

Welcome aboard Bonza - sorry I missed your post earlier.....

I'm in Glenmore Park - let me know if you feel like going for a ride :)

If the clutch plates are new the stronger springs shouldn't make much of a difference as far as lifespan. You'll find the original springs are pretty soft due the the "learner rider" target the bike was built for. Check with Nev @ Kelens - you may find the ZZR600 (from memory) clutch springs are suitable and a bit heavier / stronger and fit (check first tho) - Kelens will look after you pretty well.

You may want to check out fiche.ronayers.com - lots of parts / numbers etc.

http://www.aussieparts.com/clutch.html got some srpings for my GPZ from there :) good service

if ya all set with the whole new clutch guts may as well just use what ya got for now then if ya really need more bite from the heavier springs go down that road later :) don't forget to soak the plates in oil before u use them too..

if you're keen at getting greasy fingers and got the time for it, a valve adjustment is prolly a good idea too, no need to get any shims or stuff like that , its just a screw and locknut job.. hard part is usually getting to the valves in the first place! when I did mine it was about 6 hours .. hopefully next time now I know what's what it should be less time spent bent over tinkering with spanners n feeler gauges :D

if you need a service manual they're able to be had from the interwebs :)

your zzr wouldn't be without the bottom fairings by any chance? saw one @ the woolies caltex waiting for the air hose while I was fuelling up when I was down @ wayne's :D

Ihave been buying all the stuff from nev and going to take me bike to mick dyers for a carby service and tune up and to put the clutches in
I'am still on my L's, if I'am write at the moment with out the carby service am getting about 430km to a tank from penrith to moorebank. (army) that's not in reserve yet and sitting on 60- 70 and 80km an hour.
I would like to go for a ride, but i will be way for some time soon so thanks for the offerand the information
