What Fuel to Use ZZR250

I have a 2002 ZZR 250
ok so i got confused today, (though this does happen a lot lol) My mechanic has always told me to use Caltex Vortex Fuel as apparently its the cleanest. It seemed believable to me Caltex a good brand and their premium fuel, though today i had to drop my bike at another mechanic to get a plug put in my tyre, damn evil screws, and the mechanic told me i should only be putting normal unleaded in it not the premium.... What should i be using is there something in the premium that isnt good for the carbi's or something......

I never fed my zzr anything but premium. I used mobil premium as it's my closest servo. There are some long ended discussions on here about it, but basically the debate is that if the engine is rated for a 91 ron then any more is a waste blah blah...

I never heard of a zzr having problems due to premium fuel being used. On the otherhand newer cars and bikes that say must use a higher octane fuel usually say this because the engine is tuned to run that type of fuel, running anything less you will notice a performance decrease.

I'd say you be the judge, I don't see your engine blowing up because of it

The only thing to steer clear of is Shell Optimax and Ethanol blends. Everything else should be fine.

Ok sweet, yea i was told never to use shell or Ethanol fuel to, i think ill just stick with premium. Trust my mechanic more! :)
Talking of him time to fork out more money for another damn service i think i ride it to much lol

Plain ulp is fine. the only thing i do is occasionally run a tank of pulp through the bike to help clean out any deposits that may have accumulated. As to e10 i disagree with it and refuse to use it unless i have no choice (then its just my stupidity) in either my car or my bikes.

p.s. my gsx250e is a right prick to start when i put premium in it, back to ULP and she starts as easily as can be.

If you ride your bike everyday, then you could do your own testing........its a bit of buggerising about, but not that much...

You need to start with a full tank of Vortex, and ride the bike until it is *empty* or right down to almost nothing - and record the mileage you get.

Then fill it with plain old 91-ron unleaded. Do the same thing, and check the mileage. Using 91-ron will not kill your bike or stuff the carbies or do anything bad whatsoever. It will start and run just fine. What you need to ensure, is that you fill the bike with exactly the same amount of fuel each time.....

If you end up getting 20-30km more out of a tank on the Vortex, then maybe the extra cost to fill the tank (what - maybe $2 ??) will be worth the extra k's. Maybe not. Either way, you can do the test yourself, and then you will actually be able to have an *informed* opinion about what is best for your bike.

Gos, when i had my old el250 it worked out i could get 20km/l on ulp and 22.5kn/l on pulp. i did the maths and it worked out to be 50 cents per tank cheaper to run pulp than plain unleaded!! Mind you that was in 2003 or so.
