Hi all, I have just acquired a ZZR1100 that was first registered in Feb 2001, with less tha 4000 klms genuine on the clock.
I was just wondering if it would be be better to keep original or do some work on it?

Just posted these..... will get some better ones next weekend

What kind of work were you wanting to do?
Leave the paint original.
Exhaust, air and fuel mods are always a good thing... suspension to.

+1 on keeping the paint original.

If you've got some dollars to throw at it, put a set of Gixxer 6-pot front calipers on it, then upgrade the suspension and pay to have it set up properly for your weight. I've got a WP nitrogen-charged rear shock on the back. I've had several mechanics want to "help me out" by offering to swap it for their original rear shock. ;)

Also, if you want to be able to throw it into a corner a bit quicker, flip the rear axle 180 degrees, putting the axle at the bottom of the tensioning cam, instead of the top. This lifts the back around 30mm, changing the rake. TOTALLY changed the handling of my bike. The only downside to this is it's now a LOOOOOONG way down to the stand!!!

Another good mod is an HID conversion. I've not done it yet, but have seen it done on another ZZR. They kick arse over the old headlight.

There's plent of poke in these big girls without needing to go for drastic changes. Toss away the stock air filter for a K&N. I'd keep the exhaust original, but only because I love the twin pipes. The 4-into-1 conversion isn't my cup of tea.

Congrats on buying the greatest Kawasaki ever built. :kuda:

+1 on keeping the original paint. I take it it's the maroon over charcoal paint scheme. They look great.

and yeah, where's the photos?

:D Totally agree with everything cookietree said, the axle rotation is good, makes it so much easier to get the beast up onto the centrestand as well. My mate has the maroon/charcoal combo and it looks great, keep it. Congrats on your buy!! :D :D

I actually never had a problem with getting her up onto the centre stand. I find Mrs Tree's ZZR 250 harder to do, as the grab handle on the 250 is under the side fairing, not under the seat as on the 1100. The trick is to bend your leg and keep your arm straight. Then, just stand up. There's much more power in your leg than in your arm.

The only real downside to the axle swap is that my rear wheel touches the ground when the bike's on the centre stand. Makes it harder to clean the chain. I have to stick a board under the centre stand when I want to give her a clean.

Hey TROYMAN

That was a great bike, I sold when I was having some financial problems.
Was really sorry to let it go.

It was a fantastic bike, I told the new owner if ever wanted to sell it to give me a call!

Hope you get as much of a kick out of as I did

Cheers

hi rusty as, i believe the bike had fallen over in the previous owners driveway and his insurance wrote it of, im in shock that they wrote it off due to a few scratches on the paint and a broken foot peg, but lucky for me the bike is over 15 years old and was only a economic write off meaning i can re register it, i have repaired it and have been riding it for the last 3 weeks and absolutely love it..

if there is anything you could tell me about it history it would be great, you can pm me if you like..
