ZZR600 Tyres

Ok, well after 18,000 its time for a new set. Anyone got any recommendations?

I'm sure as hell no sportsrider, but do like to get out and have a blast and like to know that I'm gonna stick to the surface. I do a lot of freeway commuting as well, and have earned a lovely flat spot because of it.

I heard about some that were a harder compound in the centre to deal with straight line stuff, but haven't heard any first hand comments about them, and don't remember what they were.

Any advice appreciated.

Karen the twin compound is the Bridgestone Battlax BT020 i have one on the back of Tiggr, Its very very good imo i prefer it to the Michelin Pilot Sport it come with. But put something stickier on the front like a BT014 the (012 is the stickiest but overkill for general use imo) as the front wear is much less in the middle anyway.
Jibbers had 020s front n rear n didnt like the front if memory serves, that right Jibbers ?.

I have a BT020 on the rear of mine. It's excellent.

I have a Dunlop D220 on the front, and hate it. It was on the bike when I got it, and has too much life left to ditch.

loved the 020 rear but not the front!!

Dont know what the standard rim sizing is on a ZZR600? do they have the same as ZX6's? probably go the 014/020 combo in the Bridgestone or god knows depending on budget there is so much to chose from!! then theres Powers etc etc

What are some of the other guys on ZZR600's running?

i thought the old 010's had dual comp? i also thought the 012's did it too??

I've done the Bridgie combo BT010 fr./ BT020 rr. and it was pretty good got about 12K of some pretty hard riding and commuting. Got Diablo's on it at the mo' but they're a more sport oreintated tyre.
Have a look at bridgie combo (i've been told that the 020 front is not that much harder than the 010fr[012/014]) and possibly depending on price Pilot roads (replacement for the Macadams).

sizes are 17" 160 rear and 120 front

Bridgestone list for the ZZR...
both the BT014 and the BT020 as available for your bike (both F&R)....
the 014 is more of a sporty tyre with the 020 listed as "touring" type

so possibly the 014 on the front and the 020 on the back
as already recommended

Hi Kaz,

I've got the same bike and so fare I've tried

- touring Dunlop tyres (were on the bike when I bought it)
- touring Bridgestone BT20
- sport tyres Pirelli Diablo

The Diablos are IMHO the best tyres by far.
The difference in grip levels is easily noticeable, they s.t.i.c.k. to the road.
The Bridgestone felt like skating on ice compared to the Diablos.
They are also very good in wet.
The drawback is - they don't last
But I love 'em anyway

I'd say that anybody on any bike would feel more comfortable and confident on sport tyres, the question is if you want to fork out some $450 every 6-8k km.

Due to the bend of the flat carcass in the mould and its peak the rubber compound is then a little harder at the centre than on the egdes.

they are not actually using two different rubber compounds.

Didnt know that Mina. Link me your source please mate, be an interesting read. However they make them, they work a treat. Havent Flattened mine in the middle after 6ooo ks. Reckon its good for another 4 or 5 thou.

like Brett I am interested in this.....
coz I got told when I worked for a tyre company (yep Dunlop Oz)
that you can't cook em twice in the mould oven....
coz they go 'off'' ...
the compound can only be cured once and what happens with the mould release when you cook that?

and an example....
look what happens to a new race tyre when it gets too hot... the rubber bubbles and blisters....
so yeah...I am interested

this has not come from an article but a insider... wooooo

however, the bloke was a worker for suzuki in the outerwest of melbourne and they were doing tyre comparisions to see what tyre will be an oem tyre for one of their bikes (oem tyres are different all around the world to suit different conditions). When they we working along side bridgestone they got some of the goss.

i'm due for new tyres soon.

i wanna go for the mario/corrie pilots but i aint that much of a rider to need those type of tyres yet. However, they are looking very good. lot of tyre joints recommend them. But then agian they recommond the dunlop 208's.

014/020, dont know about, but many people on and off the forum say they arent a bad combo.However 014 front and back is not bad either.

Perilli is a good brand from what i hear, but not too many people i know run them. Same as Metzeler.

Hey Mina,

I've currently got Battlax BT50s front and rear, they're what the bike came with.

They seem ok, but I've never had any others to compare.

I'm also hearing good things about Michellin Pilot Roads. Any thoughts on those?
