ZZR250 wont idle

Postby hoon » Tue Apr 17, 2007 2:16 pm

Hi,

i have a ZZR 250 which doesnt run well around idle. motor just dies when you open the throttle. when the engine is running ove 3 k rpm, motor revs fine.

I have played around with the idle mix screws , didnt make a difference.

The carb boots arent leaking.

any one got any advice? valve clearence maybe ? spark plugs ?

do a search on the site for 'ZZr250', 'tune-up' etc, this question has been answered quite a few times, and most of the inofrmation is already posted up in here *somewhere*....

Had this with Zombie's ZZr250, it needed the carbies cleaning big time. They were taken off and soaked in a bucket of carb cleaner over night. Runs fine now.

could be any one of the things u listed...start with simple stuff...

clean/replace plugs..amke sure u have spark to every lead...

make sure fuel and air filters are clean... and not blocked/crinmped etc..

then..pull off and clean up carbs..if still a prob... ask us again..lol

Idle mix screws- screw all the way in and then out 2.5 turns

clean carbs by disassembling them, its not that hard, and its the best way to clean the jets, as clean as you possibly can using carby clean and blow parts clean/dry with compressed air

check/clean airfilter
check vacuum lines for leaks, replace

We had the same problem on jess's.

Turned out to be the Air filter box was not sealing as the rubber band wasn't clipped on (it was missing)

Try the simple things first before ripping off the carbies, spark plugs, etc.

If you know someone who has another ZZR250 you can try changing the coils. I had a very similar problem and changed the coils from a spare bike I had and it fixed the problem. Just another option.

ZZR_Bandit, In this article you mentioned coils, where are these located?

if you haven't yet found them, they are attached to the spark plug leads...
