The "ten year old technology" is great - look at a 10+ year old ZZR. What's wrong with it? Absolutely nothing. It's like a time machine, telling you they're bulletproof.
So buy a new one and enjoy 10+ years of trouble free motorcycling.
I made the step from a GPX250 to a GPX600, which is essentially the model prior to the ZZR600 name being introduced. The thing has had a really hard life but hasn't missed a beat. I cover 500-1000kms every week which is a combination of the commute to work, daily duties, pointless rides just because I'm bored, and a belt through the hills & the country each weekend.
You won't go wrong with a ZZR600... that said the point regarding the Z750 is a very good one and you should certainly consider one of those as well.
