Will they fix it ? Pics of damaged ZZR

Thu Jan 20, 2005 10:01 am

At first I thought the damage to my ZZR was not too bad, but when I went and looked at it yesterday something didn't seem quite right !

The clip-on is bent but replaceable

The mud guard is cracked but could easily be replaced too

And the chasis is out of alignment pretty badly. It's a bit hard too see in this picture but look at the position of the tail-light and numberplate relative to the rear tyre.

What do you think is the likelyhood of straightening out the chasis ? Are they any good after they've been straightened ?

Do you think that an '03 bike insured for $6K with 35000 k's on it would be written of if it needed the following bits replaced (in addition to straightening the chasis):-
    Mud Guard
    RH Mirror
    RH Brake Lever
    RH Foot Peg
    RH Duck Tail
    RH Indicator
    RH Indicator blanking panel
    RH Exhausst
    Ventura Rack
    Ventura Bag

Also, what are the chances that the forks are damaged from running square into the back of a car at about 50 - 70 km/h ? They didn't necessarily seem damaged but the more I think about it they probably are.

As always any opinions or thoughts are appreciated.

I wouldnt be suprised to see them fix it.

It may look bent in the arse end, but you'll probably find thats because the plastics are all twisted. The rack still seems to be sitting nice and square which would suggest that the sub frame is straight.

Only major prob there is the sub frame.
Initialy I agreed with Jase, but thinking about it, the tail light is crocked aswell. The light mounts directly to the frame, so I'd say its bent. But we'll never know untill they pull it apart.
Even if it is bent, they can fix them pretty well. About $250 to do so I think from memory.
But the pipes are expensive too.

Imply that you wouldnt be happy on it after such a HUGE head on impact Dave, I reckon they will toast it even if you dont. Then take the money n RUN like a bastage.
In 1981 a suzuki Franchise in NSW did not i repeat not take a rubber mallet too a 1981 GSX250ES ...funny how a tank can get caved in from a head on accident
Cheers Brett

No, truly, honesty *is* the best policy :D

Frankly if it is repaired I will only sell it anyway ... I doubt I'll ever ride it again

Hey oz4x4,
Hope ya feeling better!

It's funny, the first thing i noticed was i have a watch mounted in exactly the same spot on my ZZR250.

You may yet be lucky, with you bike that is,
my bike recently suffered less damage than yours and it was written-off.

< Repair Quote $3200
> Market Value $3500
- Salvage Value $500
= Payout $3000

DAMAGE;
Mud Guard = ?
RHS Fairing = ?
RHS Exhaust = ?
RHS Indicator = $35 Wreckers
RHS Peg Mount = $125 Wreckers ($278 NEW)
Brake Lever; Front = $35 Non-Genuine
Brake Lever; Rear = $25 Wreckers

My experience with Insurance is what ever you wish they would do,
they end up doing exactly the opposite!

So let's hope they don't buy you a brand new bike,
or they don't pay you out wads of cash.

Jas, at first I agreed, but looking again the sticker on the rack, which from memory was *reasonably* centred is also no longer in the middle of the tyre.

Cheers too, Carver , I have been watching the other thread with quite a lot of interest. If my bike is written off the wreck would actually be a good prospect for someone (like you) thinking of fixing one up. Other than the RH ducktail the fairings and tank seem to have come out unscathed and it has a nice donk with only 35K km's.

I'm also hoping that because it is still under big K's 2 year warranty I might be able to argue that 2nd hand / aftermarket parts are not acceptable :?: Then again, they may tell me to get farked too :D

Suppose I'll just have to suck it and see

if u want it written off..take to the frame..scratched/dented frame= write
off ...i kno this for a fact (hence why my vtr copped a chisel and..r there
ne insurance mob ppl on here???)...seriously, thats where the $$ are...i
think from memory if the repair exceeds abt 60% of bike value they write it
off....include labour in the quote too...if in doubt, go to the dealer
repairing & tell em u want a write off, or ALL GENUINE parts...that way the
quote will be too high...good luck
