body parts for ZX9

went to the track today and my bro highsided his 9

Ive been assigned the task of repairing it.

i havent got a full list of whats stuffed yet but i thought i would put a quick post up to get a head start on the obvious stuff.

Its a 2001 ZX9 (red)

im going to need belly pan, right hand fairing, and a top fairing(which just has a chip out of the top corner near the top of the screen).

At the moment we are thinking we will get this stuff on it plastic welded (bodged together) as a race fairing. But we will get the other bits asap anyway for when he goes to trade/sell it.

If we get them from kawasaki does it come with all the paint and stickers on them already?

any quick thoughts on where to get some of this stuff or suggestions on how to approach the repair job will be appreciated.

also where can i take it to to find out if the bike is bent? or is some some tests i can do myself to determine this. theres not much point him repairing it if its really a right off.

i will post some pictures later on. i will also post a ride report shortly too cause that wasnt the only highlight of the day.....

Correct me if i'm wrong but fairings from kawasaki come in the primary colour you need then decals are extra.

Frames can be straightened, so can subframes, forks, fork legs, rims, disks, tripple clamps, axles.....

To check the frame, forks and swingarm you will have to strip the bike down. The best person to take it to is Laurie Alderton in Smithfield.
Its not the end of the world if its bent as it should only cost about $400 to $500 to straighten it, and will be straighter than new.!

I had a mate out there yesterday who was texting me of the goings on. He said there was quite a lot of accidents, most due to the cold track temps and tires not getting warm enough..??

yeah we are going to plastic weld this stuff that is on it and use it as a track fairing but he wants to get good stuff to sell it with when the time comes.

my brother was in hospital last night where he got his wrist operated on.
so he is out of action for a while but he is keen to get back out there asap.

there was a lot of accidents out there yesterday.

looked like a serious one at turn 12. the medical car drove up to pick up the rider and that session was declared. not sure of any details i could only see that from a distance.

i was talking to the track coordinater (whatever her job title is) and she reckons everyone was crashing cause of the track temperature.

there definately did seem to be more accidents than the other 2 times i have been.

Thanks for your help so far, and thanks to my brother for commencing the process of repairs.

The surgeon reckons it'll take about 8 weeks before my hand works again. I reckon 6 (based on mates recovery times) which means my bike and gear has to be sorted out within about the same time frame (was having a good day up until the high side and am itching to get back out there).

My jacket has lost some stitching on one of the shoulders. It is not stitching vital to the actual integrity of the jacket (it appears to hold the intrenal lining in place) but needs to be fixed. Does anyone know who to take it to? Shoe repairer? Leather Joint? Bike Shop? Has anyone had any similar work done to their leathers before?

As for the bike where is the best place (wrecker or shop) to find second hand parts? I can't see the point in repairing it perfectly just to repeat a similar event.

Any help or thoughts are appreciated.

Oh also, I have a ZX9-R for sale....excellent condition except for some cosmetic stuff.....anyone interested?

Best place to find parts would be wreckers or use part finder. Still not cheap - Lower fairings would be about $200 each side and upper fairing around $400+. Just check condition as these people will often call it good condition if it only has a few cracks & scratches, and watch for fiberglass replacements being sold off as original items at a high price.

I pulled it apart the other day to make sure nothing was stuffed underneath the fairing.

Its all good.

i put it all back together today and replaced the stuff that had to be done eg blinker, brake lever etc and put the scractched fairings all back on.

Going to leave all the damaged fairings on for now and try to get them repaired one of these days. but the bike is back on the road and as soon as his arm is better he can ride it again.
