1997 ZX9r suspension heeelp

Postby MadHatter » Sun Sep 19, 2004 5:52 pm

Hello!
I just bought a 97 zx9r in pretty good nick.
It came with dyno tune sheets of 129rwhp.
Anyway, i love my wheelies.. but when i try to do one in first gear i just get a huge black mark  which is cool, but not what i want.
It has standard gearing and dunlop 208's with some meat left. I hate dunlops but im told these are soft tyres.

So i figure its suspension.
The compression is set to the middle/stock setting (10 clicks from clockwise)
The damping rebound is on '2' and i cant tell what the preload is set too.
Does anyone know what i can change to make wheelies easier and powerslides less likely or know what the stock preload setting is?
Thanks!

Stop using the clutch.......about 4 - 5k revs, close the throttle then wind it on(or as Neka would say..."Launch the fooker" ) but keep the back brake covered or you'll flip it

just drop a 15 tooth front sprocket on...........it'come up in 3rd gear off the throttle as above
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

I have to use the clutch. Im putting a 12 bar on later and off and on wheelies arent controlled enough, also it fucks the chain and sprockets.
Clutch method just wears the clutch a bit.

Gday mica!

I bought it cuz i heard they are wheelie machines, im sure this one would be if i could get any traction! :D

Welcome... and I agree, you shouldn't need to use the clutch, my old zx7r would wheel stand without the clutch and it only had 108hp..
Using the clutch is worse for chain and sprockets too..

Theres some guidline suspension settings here.
