04 Zx6RR - Kilometres per tank?

Howdy :D

A kinda new member here (long time browser but a bit of a shy poster! :shock: ) :D

Just got off my restrictions today and celebrated by going on a bit of a blast through the spurs on my new baby, Ziggy (he's an 04 Zx6RR). All I can say is... :supz: wow!

While riding around today though it seems like that I'm only getting about 195km before the reserve light comes on...this seems a little low to me :? so I was just wondering what everyone else gets on their Zx6R/Zx6RR?

Sorry if this question has been answered before...I did a quick search but couldn't find anything relevant.

Sounds about right 200 to 220kms and the reserve light comes on, the only time i had to push it i got 267kms from a tank well i rolled into the servo anyway.

sounds about right mate, when i first got mine it was hitting the reserve light after 165km of road riding, but after 2000km its loosened up and gets to 200km before the reserve light comes on.

Depends quite a bit on how hard u ride it of course. If ur just cruisin at 100 in 6th, then u should get about 220-230km before reserve.

That's what it is on my 06 636, which is a little down on what the 01 zx6r could do.

yup..thats all u can really expect...funny how a 600 and a 1000 can get the same mileage out of a tank huh??
well i guess u compare higher revs, to more power ..blah blah blah..u ride a big bike now mate, be use to it costing u more money....

Sound's about right. Mine will also come on around the 220 mark if i've just been riding around town with out really going above 8000rpm. But now i've gone a tooth down on the front sprocket and i've had it go up too 270 but the sprocket just throw's everything out. I'm taking it off soon. If anyone want's it send us a pm and we can talk business. :D

Cool, thanks guys! 8)

*phew* I thought maybe there was something wrong with the bike :shock: :D I had a ZXR250C before Zigs and I probably got around 170/180k's before reserve so was a little surprised that I wasn't getting much more.

Btw, what revs do you guys normally ride yours at?

:shock: Interesting Q' I go from 1000~ 9000 sometimes, usually just 1000~ 5000. When just cruzing along it all depends on the speed limit and the gear. Anything flat over 80kmh I'm in top (6th) If I'm going up or down through corners I usually have a lower gear "revs higher" so I can have faster response from the bike, both braking and acceleration.
Speed and gear choice dictates the revs.

Yeah, I just wanted to make sure I was riding it right. When I first got the ZXR250, my mechanic told me I wasn't riding it at high enough revs and was building up carbon. Now, I'm just trying to balance riding the bike right with getting the best fuel economy I can.

That's what freeway onramps are for. I never seen a speed trap on one.

fuel economy?? i believe a new 1300cc jap car will pants a ZX636R on economy, ride it hard and keep the revs over 8000rpm when your in the hills and fill it up when the fuel light comes on, bikes are all about the grin factor!

Why else would they let you ride a race bred bike like a ZX6RR on the road??

Hey mate,
any reason you wnet for the ZX6RR? are you planning to race and need to have the 599 engine?

On my 03 636 and on the 05 636 I get anywhere from 195 to 230Km before the fuel light comes on.

Revs?....Well that all depends on how you ride and where. They do like to be revved :twisted: Oh and every so often on that "closed controlled road" that we all use, open her right up....ya gotta make sure the shift light is working :twisted:

why I went for the 600? It was there, I liked the way it rode, it was a fairly good deal and I liked the colour! :D I would have been happy to go with a 636 - there just wasn't any around at the time I was looking at the right price, in the right conditions and of course, the right colour! :D

I don't mind giving it phang...one of the reasons why I'm asking about fuel economy is because my boy and I are planning on doing a trip up to Darwin...so I'm just trying to figure out what's the most km's I can get from this baby and still be riding it right.

I'm a chick who doesn't come from a background of riding (in fact, I don't think my conservative asian father really appreciated his only daughter taking up motorbike riding! :lol: ) BUT I love my riding and I do ride almost every day rain or shine...and I'm just trying to find out and learn as much as possible...and sometimes I might ask silly questions in the process :shock: :D

You will find you get better mileage on long trips...

On my trip to mt Gambier a few weeks ago I was getting more along the lines of 215 per tank...

oh no..ur a chick..ur abt to cop it now...lol..kidding....it DOES explain why the colour was so important tho...

seriously, i get abt 190-210 on my 929cc fireblade, riding like a twat, wheelies,revs etc...BUT on my trip to PI i was getting like 240km, pulling up and only putting in 10-12 litres (19 litre tank)....so if ur cruising at abt 110, u may get closer to 250+
i reckon on my zx6r (99) i use to get abt 250-300 just cruising...
