ZX9R owners (Sydney)

Hey all,

Do any of you have any ZX9R bits lying around that I could borrow for a short time to do some research? Ive heard numerous reports that some things like exhausts ( both full systems and slipons), rear shocks, flywheels and engine covers are interchangeable with the Z750 and Id like to actually try a few things to find out for sure. All things being equal, any ZX9 parts that fit would mean that equivalent Z750 (and more than likely Z1000) parts would fit on a ZX9. Im sure a ZX9 would look fantastic with the quad pipes from a Z1

If anyone can help out with parts or even hands-on tooling help, I could probably even arrange a day of tinkering with a BBQ and beer! And of course Id report all my findings on here for other people who may be interested.

Keep in mind that I just want to borrow parts to try them on, take a few pics and see if any they make any difference before handing them back. You know you can trust me, I used to be a 2nd hand bike salesman!

Cheers

JAMES

james, i have a stock zx9 (98, C1) full exhaust.

But if you ask me the stock z750 shit's all over it in the looks dept. i reckon it looks better then the z1000's 4 pipe thingy.

just my $0.02 worth

Phil,

Thanks for replying mate. I dont necessarily want to replace my exhaust with a stock ZX9R pipe, but chances are that if your stock ZX9R pipe fits on my bike, then any aftermarket ZX9 pipes (C1's) will fit also. The same with shocks & mechanical parts. I just want to do some research into what parts fit by actually fitting them.

Once we know, it'll be a bit easier if shopping for spares or aftermarket accessories. There'd probably be a lot more 2nd hand ZX9R pipes and rebuilt or aftermarket shocks available than Z750 ones.

Cheers
JAMES

James,
I've got a few bits hanging around.
I have a stock rear shock, front guards, wheels, sprockets, fork springs and a few other bits and pieces you might want to check. I don't have the bike at the moment though...:-(

The only bits I have are a stock rear shock and two stock screens...which wouldn't be much use on a naked bike

Thanks guys,

I might take up some of those offers, especially the rear shock and exhaust.

Madkaw - how is your bike coming along?

Yeh I heard from them yesterday. The parts arrived and it should be back together next week. Its seems the mechanic that did the previous rebuild stuffed it up causing the brand new s/s race valves $$ to destroy themselves.!!

Was it the same shop that did the last rebuild? or another one?
how long ago was this rebuild? and if it was another shop are you willing to get a written statement from the shop stating that fact? (and slug a copy of the bill along with it for the hell of it?

The shop that did the first rebuild are a well known performance shop on Penrith. The guy that has subsequently rebuilt the head is sending me a written statement telling me what was wrong with it. I will then send this to the said shop and see what they say... I don't expect anything as the warranty on race bike engines is basically, if it breaks, I get to keep both parts....
But if I can prove incompetance on there part, I would at least expect them to pay for the new parts... I won't hold my breath..

James, do want to check the zx9 shock still.??
