Hey all, I have a shorted stator and was wondering if there is anything I should check out before slapping in a new one and firing the bike up?

There was a recall of 10&6r's in recent times for this issue....is your bike one of those affected ?

I'd def be looking at the rectifier as well;

I went with a Polaris SH775 series recfitier - apparently they reduce the load on the stator and keep it significantly cooler.
Got it from http://www.roadstercycle.com/

On the recall front, the bike was made in December 2010 so I'll have to check that out.

Keeping the stator cooler will definitely help avoid a repeat of this, so will look into it.

The good news I was able to get a stator yesterday. I've just fired her up and the regulator survived and is giving me a stable 14.5v :) I wasn't looking forward to a 2hr train / bus trip to work on Monday.

Hi guys

I am having issues with my charging system. Battery voltage 11.8V when motor not running and it doesn't change when bike runs.
I had the reg,rect recall done some time ago. I replaced battery few weeks ago.

How to test stator before removing?

Thanks

Give these guys a call. Much better than what you buy off the shelf. They repair and strengthen your old one above oem spec
