ZX14r 40tooth sprocket

Postby Profab » Thu Sep 11, 2014 8:46 pm

I want to change my rear sprocket on my zx14r 2012 model from the standard 42 tooth to a 40tooth.

My questions is to the guys that have done this, does the chain need a link taken out?
what happens with speedo? Does it effect the reading?
Where is best place to get a sprocket?

Thanks

You may not need to take a link out if you have room to move the axle back. Speedo will be out but if needed you can get a speedo healer. I find the best price and range from schnitz racing in the US.

I'll put money on it that you have to remove at least one link.
But measure twice, cut once...

But if you are going to that trouble (speedo healer) you may as well drop 4 teeth - you won't be short of berries.
I dropped 2 teeth on my ZZR1100, and could only notice any difference in 6th - and I ride with a pillion 90% of the time and neither of us is... *looks over shoulder* umm... small!

The stock chain will take a 40t no issues.
Mine has one fitted know.
Going up will run to tight at at 44 requiring an extra link.

Googie..

Thanks guys,
Hey Googie do run a 40 tooth alloy or steel sprocket?
Can you get a steel sprocket? If so from where? All the ones I seemed to find are alloy.
Thanks
