ZX 14 questions fuel service

Postby mainstage » Sun May 12, 2013 8:07 pm

Hello all

Just about to trade my vfr800 for a 09 zx14 with 4k on the clock . Doing a bit of research just thought I would get it from the people who know .

In normal everyday riding ( whatever that is ) how many ks do you get from a tank

What is the cost of the minor service .. And major service

Do you need to remove the fairings to change the oil and filter . ( you do on the vfr what's why I ask )

What is the tire chose of most riders .

Anything else I should be aware of

Thanks up front guys after 5 years with the vfr looking at the cost of a new machine :)

I get about 230 - 250 until the "Fuel Empty" flashes up, riding in traffic or the hills makes no difference really :D

I get between 300 - 350 Kms from a tank, you don't need to remove the fairings to change the oil & filter. Currently running Michelin pilot power 3's very happy with the grip levels & confidence these give.
Last service was a minor 1 & I think it was around the $250.00 mark. I haven't had a major yet. But it's cams out for valve clearance check at 42,000 Kms, so not sure what that will cost.

Thanks brother that's exactly the same as the Vfr on all counts . And I run the r p 3 also nice tyre . The zx 14 I'm looking at is a long way off the valve check . But just for reference the Vfr was $1000.00 8 hours labour :(

Cheers

Question

I rang the kawasaki dealer today to book in my 14 for a 6000k service . In the service book and in the kawasaki user manual it says . There is a service at 6000ks .

The dealer tells me No the next one is at 12000ks

Is he right ?

The last one was at 1000ks

find another dealer.
6k kms service intervals...maybe I'm old skool but I wouldn't let my bike for any where near 12k kms without an oil change (the old skool ref is b/c many say you don't have to change synthetic oil as often, but I;m not comfortable with that - maybe strike a medium and go for a semi-synth but replace it more often.

^^^^

Yes thanks mate and I agree . Every bike I have owned over 20 years have been serviced every 6000ks . This is my first zx14 . I was just surprised the service manager told me he owns the same bike and no 6000k service . I would have thought a kawasaki dealer would know their stuff . The service intervals would show up on the computer . Plus I sent them an email so he had time to think/check .
