04 crim with cracked frame?

Postby JPaddo » Tue Dec 20, 2011 4:14 pm

OK,

So the Gen 1 10R that I hastily bought for the xmas track day has the early signs of a cracked frame? It's only on the left hand side, and it's only minor for the moment.

I understand this was a known problem with them. Was there a recall? Anyone have any experience with this?

I'd be informing Mr Kawasaki, if they accept is a known problem you will probably get a new frame

Didn't someone here get a frame replaced due to this problem? :?

Haha it's the powers that be trying to tell me I should get out of this game.

I know people have had frames replaced due to this problem and was hoping someone local would chime in with first hand experience.

Way I see it, best case Mr Kawasaki fixes it, worst case I fix it. Either free or cheap, no big deal either way. Still a great bike and a good buy imo

From what i read up on the US forums bout the problem, the apparent cause is the engine mounts being incorrected torqued up on that particular model, or something close to that.. Unlucky none the less dude!

It's so minor that I think I'll just keep monitoring the situation for now. See if it changes, then weld. I certainly didn't spot it until I was reading up on Gen 1's and discovered that they had this issue, and even then it took some finding. Most of the pics you see in the inter-webs are far worse and more systemic. For all I know it's been like that since the showroom floor and it'll stay just like that for the next 7 years.

Still curious to know if anyone else has had issues though, it seems to be more common than not with this model.

I'd talk to Kawasaki mate. You may be lucky and they may do a "Goodwill" thing.

Apparently this is due to the mounting points between motor & frame being over torqued in the factory's and wheel stands coming down hard intiat the issue? (a crim pulling wheel stands never  )

Best mate has a 04 Crim gunna pull the tank and check 70,000km on the clock id be surprised if his isn't cracked
