New 'M4' Exhaust now on the 2011 ZX10R...

Postby Maccarocks » Wed Nov 02, 2011 5:16 pm

Hey all,

Well I finally decided to purchase an 'M4' Standard mount 3/4 system for the 2011 ZX10... :D Yes I know I go through a lot of exhaust systems, but I like things to be just right.. ;) and this one I really like...!!

The junction where the headers meet the mid pipe is 55mm, now it stays 55mm all the way from there, mid pipe and the bore of the muffler is also 55mm.... So yes it is a big bore (some pipes are bigger) but is definitely does a lot for sounding nice and deep without being excessively loud.. I hate really loud bikes... :x

So according to 'M4' USA it is supposed to have a nice boost in Tourque and HP in the midrange, but only a couple of extra horses up top, which I really dont need up there anyway... (USA dyno charts are so different to ours anyway, as their bikes are super restricted..) It fitted up perfectly.. Lambda sensor all fitted in well, only had to make up a spacer for the muffler mount and it was all done in 30 mins.. and that was taking my time.. so a great install with a great looking and sounding finish... :D

Next track day will be the 14th and 15th of November.. so see you there if you are making your way to Phillip Island.. Now I will have a 3/4 Leo Vince 'EVO II' system to sell... If you have a 2011 ZX10, let me know if you are interested..? It will make it's way to the classified very soon...

Hi Philbo,

Yes most people seem to relate the 'M4' to the stumpy GP style exhaust, but they are just way too loud for me, I prefer a more 'tuned' sound. This pipe sounds very much like a Yoshi or Akro full system... quite a deep tone due to the slightly larger bore (55mm) but definitely not super loud.

I had the 'Leo Vince' EVO II system on it before and the 'M4' is slightly louder than that, but very useable on the street. And these bikes definitely run better with the longer pipe on them.

If the M4 sticker wasn't on it; I would of mistaken it for CF hexagonal akra like the one on my ninja.

Looks good.

Yes the can is definitely bigger than the Leo Vince one.. but it is not as big as the Yoshi system for this bike.. so it's middle of the road I guess as far as size goes... Any smaller and it would be too loud...

It is a bit deceiving though.. it's the new shape of the can that is what makes it look a lot bigger.. But it does sound good, deep and throaty... I am sure at 13,000 rpm's it will be screaming... ;)

+1 on hating loud bikes! Since I installed the full Leo on my bike it's been loud as... I don't notice it much on the bike 'cause I wear ear plugs but I took the quiet insert out the other day and DAMMM THAT'S LOUD!  Simply cannot start it in the garage anymore without feeling guilty.

That M4 you got is by far the best looking model from them I've ever seen! Very classy. 8)

Hi EDU,

Yes I reckon it is the nicest looking pipe around and really suits the black bike with the gloss black carbon finish... Different shape as well.. not the same as the akro hex, or the Yoshi.. so it is a bit different to the rest..

I also hate loud bikes... even at the track, those obnoxiously loud bikes are so bad going down that straight... at least this pipe is a good volume, nice note and sounds very pro.. it sounds just perfect for the track, like a tuned SBK..!! :D

I also have the option for fitting a DB reducing insert for the street bike (which has the same exhaust) which I think I will do, just to keep it toned down a touch more for the road, saves wearing earplugs all the time and wont give the pillion a headache either... Thanks for the comments..

Hey Jonno
I've got an Akra shortie still sitting in the box and procrastinating about whether I need a straight connecting pipe so if you were thinking of splitting your current system when you get the LV at such a bargain price, I could be interested in the pipe.
Cheers
