New exhaust or leave the same

Postby 2010zx6r » Sat Jan 29, 2011 10:33 am

I am looking at maybe changing my exhaust but before I do I want to see if its worth while.

I currently ride a 2010 zx6r with a M4 gp slip on. I like the look and all but I wouldn't mind something different.

I am looking long term here. I was thinking of the Akrapovic slip on with link pipe or full race exhaust, as I'm thinking of investing in a PCV.

Now the question is it worth my while getting a full system at all, or just sticking with slip on and link pipe?

From what I have read i don't think the power gains will be that huge. Also if I get the link and slip on option, it means that I can invest on PCV at a later date.

How much difference is there in sound with the two?

Also is PCV the way to go? Someone recommended to me to get Rapidbike instead as it has far more features. What do you think?

Appreciate your thoughts.

What do you want out if it? Is it just a different sound or do you want to maximise power? Personally I don't understand why people throw thousands of dollars at 600's (full system, high-flow air filter and PCV) to make them slightly more powerful when you can just go out and buy a litre bike and have heaps more power. :?

Slightly Different bike but my 08 zx6r is HUGELY better for having one tooth down on the front, full TI Arka and 2nd hand pc3. Total cost? $1400. After making these mods to be honest the responsiveness of my model in stock form on the road is totally lacking, now it's awesome! I understand kawasaki addressed that in your model with engine, fueling, signifigant weight reduction and exhaust mods so I doubt the full system will have such a great effect for you.

If the main thing you're after is more poke drop one tooth on the front sprocket you won't regreat it!

Be aware though, if you do that your speedo will be slightly out and you'll put more k's on your bike unless you install a speedo healer.

If it's sound you're after I've got it on authority my bike doesn't sound like a 600 anymore, more like a thousand  BUT probably Not any louder than a slip on.

It's my understanding that if you loose the cat you might wanna get the pc5 etc but not sure.

To be honest I've tried and didn't like a 1000. I found them to be too big for my size.

I'm after sound yes, but nothing overwhelming like the M4 is with stage 1 baffle. I have put stage 2 to quiet it down.
But I'm also wanting performance. I have already removed both stock pipe and cat to fit the M4. If we're talking minimal gains for full system then point in spending the cash and just grab the link pipe and slip on.

I have the akra + link pipe and PCV. Not sure about performance against stock but full system will get u Fark all difference as long as you remove the cat from your oem headers. Full system for the road will do sweet fa. Even at the track it's only a couple of horsepower. Which is useless unless you can use it properly ;)

I was thinking the same.

But what about the rapidbike instead of PCV?
I've had a look on net and it seems that there are a lot of ducati bike using it more so. Prob cause it's made in italy.

Ive only recently upgraded, but want to ask.. why bother chasing a few extra hp on these things? the only time you would probably have the chance to use the full potential is on the track.. i.e as blurr said.. it will do sweet f.a for the street...! save the $1k+ for some track days..
that being said. i would LOVE to dump some moulah on a two bros exhaust because iam a vain bastard and think these things make the bike look like sex on two wheels

I gues its cause we always want to do something to the bike. I want a change my slip on anyways. I will see how the akra slip on and link pipe go and if I don't need the PCV I won't bother. From what I have seen the akra pipe will give me more back pressure giving me much better gains down low to mid then my current M4 gp slip on.

I have the M4 on the tracky and a hotbodies on the roady (which leaves the silencer box on). I dont reckon for the cost its worth changing your pipe but if you do change and want to give away the M4 ;) :kuda:

Yeah isnt the point of getting a pipe to make it louder and for the cars around to hear u cruising up the side of them.....i got the MGP Growler and its a great tune.

PCV - i highly recommend u get this if u really wanna stretch the legs on ya beast.....i got 1 put on my badboy and worth every penny. Might wanna look at getting the auto tune aswell. Make sure ur mechanic isnt to overzealous 2....mine mapped out to a fair bit of a racing structure and i was going through fuel like no tomorrow. So scalled her back a lil but plenty of go.
