ZX7R Electrical Problems.

Having a bit of drama with the old beast and wouldn't mind some help from people that might have seen it before.
It cut out on me twice this morning (like: running one second, no power the next). Both times after stopping i turned the key off and on again and it started immediately.
Something else i've been noticing is every now and again, it doesn't start up first push of the button (doesn't even crank the starter over), and i have to turn the ignition off and back on, sometimes a few times before it'll work.
I've replaced the battery...no help.
Thanks in advance for your help, guys.

Check your sidestand switch- first point of call with problems like that. Some models have resistors in the ignition switch that can fail too...maybe the contacts are burned too. Intermittent problems can be a bugger to find- if only they would stay stuffed, then you could find them!

Loose connections and/or bad earth.
Could even be a bad switch or key tumbler.
Worth checking them all anyway.
Good luck

Just remembered too- the contacts on the starter switch of my GPZ900 use to burn too- remedy- pull apart and sand them till shiny- worked well- maybe you have TWO problems? Check clutch switch too if you have one! Good luck!

The sidestand switch sounds good...i reckon i'll rip the killswitch apart while i'm at it and give it a good cleanout.

Hmmm, had some experience with the cut out problem on our 7's. Both mine, Bobbi's and and a mate's have all had problems with no response from the starter button.
This has always been after washing the bike. Sometimes imediately, sometimes after it has started and steamed up a bit when I've switched it off and back on.
Also, I have had some (very occasional) cut out problems in horrically wet weather.
I now keep the switch blocks dry when I wash the bikes and hardly ever have problems.

Might even be dew in the switch blocks then...it was parked outside and it was pretty cold and dewey this morning.

Looks like my problem lies with my ignition switch. I had to trailer it home from work.
I'll keep you posted.
