the $66 exhaust. 09 zx6r
So.
On Blurr's advice, I went searching for a new exhaust. I've been lusting over an akro for my bike, but geez they are exxy. $600 US without shipping at motomummy, one of the cheapest places I could find in the states.
I saw this pop up on ebay and rob told me blurr had one on his 10. I asked Blurr and he sent me a pic, said it looked & sounded the goods.
I ordered one of these bad boys, and it rocked up 4 business days later. $103 AUD to my door. http://www.dan-moto.com/zx6r-ninja-09-1 ... 60d2tthjb1
put it on this afternoon.
Build quality is top notch, everything looks great, the welds are awesome and the carbon looks great.
The entire can and link pipe weighs 3/5ths of fk all.
putting it on, I had a few dramas because the link pipe fit was REALLY tight to the can. WD40, determination and a hammer, along with a blood sacrifice to the gods from my thumb eventually got it on.
apart from that it was all smooth.
bracket holding the exhaust to the hanger could have been better made, but meh, you don't notice it and it does its job.
all in all a positive experience. Will see over the next few days how the performance has fared.
quick question though, the exhaust butterfly, obviously this doesnt have one, what do I do with the cables? at the moment they are just taped to a bracket. I;ve heard i should just remove the cables from the servo motor, I think that will be the go, but any different opinions?

looks nice mate!!
why is it when people find cheap places that do exhausts... they make them for a lot of models, but not the 250?

Nice Daniel!
The cables dhould be removed from the servo motor which is located under the seat. Be careful not to turn the servo as you remove or your FI light will light up. If this does happen you can buy a plug which can bypass the servo but its much easier not to mess it up to begin with

Looks the goods
As for the exhaust servo cables you have 3 options:
1. Leave them taped to the bracket - dodgey
2. Remove them and leave the exhaust servo under the seat.
3. Remove the cables and exhaust servo (which weighs a tonne for its size) and grab 1 of Ivan's servo eliminators from http://www.sgmotorsport.co.uk

Cheers guys, will work on the cables tomorrow, for tonight cable ties
The exhaust is PERFECT! the sound is deep and throaty with a great rumble now. Definitely more power, though it seems to rev a tad slower, the powers definitely there.

Is that measured by Wattie's "bum dyno" ?insane wrote:Cheers guys, will work on the cables tomorrow, for tonight cable ties

Re: the $66 exhaust. 09 zx6r
its measured by the roll on dyno...
and the fact that I need to do less work to lift the front up
with my riding position, I need to be redlining it in first for the front to lift up, and even then it only lifts up a little. tonight just getting it up to 12k is enough to do the same thing....
I thought it might just be placebo effect etc, but I'm pretty damn certain its got more. Even if its from the 8kg diet it just had
EDIT: and it shoots flames when it pops/backfires.

umm.. doesn't the flame shooting mean it's now running massively rich????
.. stupid question... but that exhaust servo sensor thingie is for measuring this isn;t it?

Well, my KTM was popping flames and stuff and richening it up helped muchly.
The popping in the Kawasaki's is largely due to the FLEEN system, it pumps fresh air into the exhaust at the head to make the emissions cleaner. Block this off and popping is greatly reduced.
The exhaust servo opens and shuts depending on throttle position and revs, the idea is to improve bottom end responsiveness and then open up at higher revs to become free'er flowing.
The O2 sensor is coser to the engine, and wont be affected by changing a slip on exhaust.

Re: the $66 exhaust. 09 zx6r
yup.
It's always done the popping on downshifts and especially when riding downhill with the throttle closed. As wattie explained I believe. Its just always been muffled by the Cats in the stock exhaust. Now that it's open its just much cooler
re: the exhaust servo: yeah, Bottom end honestly doesn't feel like its suffered, it feels like I've improved all through the rev range. It was even unsettling the rear a bit when on the gas out of a corner, something it usually struggles to do. Much fun...
I am fairly certain that the DB level of this exhaust will be legal too, its definitely not obscene, just beautiful

Re: the $66 exhaust. 09 zx6r
I was thinking about getting one of these as spare for the race bike but the muffler ID is a bit small for my full system.
My system has 60mm ID and they make a pipe that will fit this but it drops to 48mm ID in the muffler. Not much point doing that..
as Wattie Says, remove the KLEEN (I think thats what FLEEN means
) this will stop a lot of the popping. Someone posted up a how to ealier I believe..
