no..

your suspension is working fine - it is just doing its job more effectively with more weight on the back - i find i get the same thing with my zx9, and sometimes i can go faster round bends than i do on my own..

ive had friends say the same about their bikes - that the bike's happier with the rear suspension loaded up.

fret not.

btw, you should be able to chew up your chicken strips easier with a pillion - i do.

Maybe you just feel more comfortable with the rear end being a little more planted, and then there's the possibility that you pay a little more attention to what you are doing when you have precious cargo.

if there's too much preload on the back, it shouldnt make any difference with a pillion on the back, the added weight will make the bike more comfortable at the rear... i never had a problem with more rear preload than needed (for a rider on his own) and a pillion at the same time.

*shrug*

thanks for the help guys i think its a mix of wat u have all said.
i have started to sit further back on the seat rather than up against the tank and have noticed my rides have been more comfortable with the weight over the back and not so much over the front suspension.

thanks again

Possibly... there's also the possibility that your, now eight years old, rear shock is getting a bit tired.

Having more weight on the back means the spring has more to work against, and this slows it down during extension. Think that through a bit more and you arrive at a pillion being equivalent to increased rebound damping. So, to see if you can get the bike feeling as planted with just you on board as opposed to you and a pillion, try increasing your rear rebound.
