ZX10R - what to look for

for those more knowledgable than i....

what should i be looking for when inspecting a 10r to buy?..any known faults,gremlins, inherent problems?
any hints/tips would be great..

Yes preferably the much more attractive, albeit somewhat slower 2005 model Green

Seriously though

Cracks in the plastics around the tail, particularly where the tabs screw onto the sub frame. Not a massive deal because you can fix them pretty easily

I don't think there are really any inherent flaws though in the 04/05's other than Mushy brakes, but they're OK for the road. I've heard stories from the US of alternators shitting themselves but I've got no idea what the signs are.

Other than that just the normal sportsbike stuff I reckon. On friday I was in at Bikebiz Kwaka and i notice they have a Titanium 05 in there. They probably want too much for it but you never know

If you're looking for an 06/07 just be aware that they look shit :) Runs and hides from the Gumby owners......hang on a minute I are one.....

check for frame cracks around the round engine mount welds.

easy spot, they are on the outside. :kuda:

also leaky fork seals, especially if not ridden often, if you dont ride much, they weep a little bit of oil.

saw that 05 titanium one Glen...looks good, they want 10.5k for it... so, bit too steep for me..
i actually took the 06 black one they have for a test...and had very evil laughter inside my helmet!!

Yep and 2 n a bit years later the evil grin / laughter has not diminished .. :kuda:

Oh and black 06's are by far the best looking ...... not that I'm biased of course :lol: :lol:
