crash knobs for a ZZR250

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum, and just thought I'd say hello and ask a couple of kawasaki specific questions. Tanyathecheeky tells me this forum is the right place to ask - thanks T
I ride an '04 ZZR250 that I bought new, which I intend to keep until I head overseas for a year or two next year.
I have convinced my man to learn how to ride (wahey!!) I was thinking of attaching crash knobs to prevent LearnerDamage (tm). I spoke to the guys at whale's kawasaki and they said that crash knobs were never manufactured for ZZR's, and that I would have to get an engineer to look at the bike and weld on some brackets, then modify crash knobs from another bike to fit mine
This stikes me as fundamentally ridiculous, expensive, time consuming, inefficient and likely to have me taken for a ride (but not in the good way).
Any ideas or recommendations? and since I've asked several people before, I will head some answers off at the pass - I actually DO want to keep my bike
I do NOT think it looks better all cracked and scratched
and yes I DO want to teach my boyfriend to ride, not just kit him up in a short skirt and put him on the back
Bar the above, any help would be appreciated
Thanks, and hope to go for a ride with y'all soon. Cheers, -s.
