I have done a little bit of research on this. It seems the best option is to swap the zx10 front calipers for ones off a zx14 or posssibly the 2007 zx6. I have installed a Brembo master cylinder but it is still not great. So I have placed a wanted ad for the zx14 front calipers.

The missus has a 2007' model zx6 and I reckon if I swap them for the ones on the zx10 I will be on a winner, It's going to have to be a stealth operation, I reckon the shotgun would come out if she saw me do it.

Question is - will she notice a differenc on the zx6. She only rides on the road. And also will this fix the problem on the zx10.

Ahh the old ZX10 Brake debate.

Short answer is I don't think anyone really knows the definitive answer

Wattie has put ZX14 calipers on his and it's as touchy as all buggery , not sure if it stops any quicker but it feels a lot firmer.

Dave (Madkaw) I think is relatively standard with pazzo levers and it feels fine.

(I should add here both of the above have got around EC on the same bike with standard brakes a lot faster then most mere mortals will.)

Others have done the Brembo M/C and I think have reported problem fixed

Mine is bog standard and sure the lever comes back a long way when you're on a track day but I've never run out of brakes. The thing still stops it's just a bit unnerving. Jamie Aitken reckons the brake prob is totally fixed for about $150 with a decent pull apart and service of the standard calipers and proper bleeding with RBF600 so I'm giving that a bash at the next service.

:D I have some 07 ZX14 calipers on mine & it made a world of difference plus i put an 05 ZX636 radial master cylinder on my 04 ZX10R & Pazzo shortie levers also seems with the ZX14 brake calipers you can do 1 or 2 finger braking so you dont need a long lever :lol:

Mine are shite as well but like has already been said I get heaps of travel in the lever but they always work. Braided lines and some goodrich pads have made a difference but its still not great :?

Ive also read somewhere that the R1 calipers may be a direct fit too and have solved the problem? Anyone else heard this???

harden the fark up you pansies!!! ya dopnt need brakes... it all about mid corner speed :D

seriously tho sounds like the 14 calipers will do the job... it is nice to have the feeling os safety...

ah the ol' zx14 brakes debate...

well i had braided lines, an hh pads in the 10, it lasted like 2 laps of the track and they were fading bad. but as Gleno said, they still worked. 8) i also found on the road they felt a bit "woody"

then i changed to zx14 calipers. instant improvement. no fade to speak of and the stock M/C works fine.

the problem seems to lie with the Tokiko calipers. there is a lot of travel b4 they "bite"
i think thats why the brembo 18mm bore m/c improves the feel, it moves more fluid. so less travel b4 the bite.

with the zx14 calipers there is so little travel they can feel twitchy.
i ran my lever on the highest setting giving the lever a longer area to travel.

now i run it on the closest. because its works instantly.

the 07 calipers are same as the zx14 ones. and funnily enough they are putting the same brakes on the new 09 ZX6r.

but they are not on the "bug" 08 zx10r :?

i've given my zx14 brakes a fair workout since i've had them. best think i've ever bought. :shock:

Spoke to a mechanic that works at Aitkens when I was at the creek on Monday (forgot his name, young guy). anyway he believes it is due to the pistons in the calipers not returning due to dust build up etc. A full pull apart and clean every 10000kms is supposed to do the trick. Well problem here is that mine has only done 5000kms, so I reckon it might be a waste of $150.

When I had HEL braided lines on and RBF600 fluid with standard pads I was running out of brakes going into last turn at Wakefield after half a session. So have upgraded to a Brembo Master cylinder and took it out at the creek and found it ok, but still reckon the zx6 07' brakes heaps better. I have a set of Goldfren race pads that I will put on for this Sunday at the creek, hopefully it gets a better result, if not I will chase down a set of zx14 calipers.

There is a set on ebay US but the dollar has gone to shite so will hunt around for a little while.

Aitkens told me you should replace the seals inside the calipers, and when doing so put some decent high temp grease on the seals.

when the seals are dry the stick to the side and pull the piston back away from the disc when you release the brakes. then next time you grab them they have to make up that slack.

but doing the seals wont help with fade. it will just give you more room to play with. 8)

Been Googling and got this from kawiforums:
'You can find the Nissin calipers on 2007/2008 ZX6Rs, 06/07/08 ZX14, 08 Concourse and on the 07/08 Z1000.'

Now just got to find them for the right price

i have heard the tokiko's off the gixxers are identical in looks and dimensions and bolt straight on and work a heap better, that could be an option and they are a dime a dozen on us ebay and cheap too.

issue seem to be the 4 pads vs the 2pads on gsxr and honda tokio. A switch to blade brakes and 5mm spacers does the trick. Saying that i have the bremo 19x20 mc, braided lines, race pads and fluid and i have no fade at all...

I didn't have any fade issues with the Brembo mc and braided lines installed. Just didn't seem to have decent bite. That probably comes down to the pads. The goldfren race pads are on and are getting a run around the creek tomorrow. I haven't use goldfren before but have heard a lot of good reviews about them.

After having the pistons regreased the front felt awesome yesterday at EC! No fade at all to speak of and plenty of feel... May be worth a try to save some $$$ ?
