zx636 wiring loom

Postby Kiwisaki » Fri Mar 07, 2008 3:38 pm

hey people firstly let me introduce myself, my names luke living on the sunshine coast and just bought myself an 06 zx636. Had the bike a week and a half now. Was riding the other day and it started running roughly and sputtering cutting out etc but idling fine. So was guessing some bad fuel, took it to the shop to be safe and they tell me a rat has chewed up the wiring, looks like i am going to have to replace the whole loom. Any idea on a typical price for this?cant believe my luck didnt think to unbolt the tank and check for rat damage when i bought it and was running fine for about 300ks i did on it in that week. Anyone had a similar problem?not happy

Shit Luke, that's a pain in the arse! Have you had a look to see if it looks like it's really been eaten by a rat - it seems very unusual :? The first thing to look at would be where the loom is damaged, and how badly - if it's only one or two wires you may be able to solder them, seal them with heatshrink and be done with it. I suppose if you do need a new loom I'd try http://www.findapart.com.au (some people have had success, I never have) or start at your local wrecker.

Welcome to KSRC and good luck with the bike. FWIW, when they are going they're a hoot to ride :D

im going up to the shop to have a look tomorow see how bad it is make sure theyr not pulling a dodgy, they said they already tried replacing some wires but has not helped. it only did 800 ks in the last 12 months , i thought this was a good thing when buying it but obviously not meant it had been sitting idle as rat bait. So much for my weekend ride, go drink my sorrows away tonight i think.
