Considering an 06 ZX6R

Hi guys,

im going to look at an 06 ZX6R ths week and was just after some thoughts and experiences from owners of what the bike is like reliability and ride wise.

I currently own a 01 R6 and feel its time to upgrade, im happy to stay on a 600cc but am just after a newer model bike with less km. I have riden the 06 CBR600 and absolutly hated it, it felt cheap and plasticy the power was ok if not a bit 'peaky' but overall i prefered my outdated R6

Havent riden a ZX6R yet but hopefully it wont dissapoint :P . Im looking for something that will fit my 6'2 frame so hopefully the 636 isnt any smaller then my R6.

Im not buying brand new either so is there anything to look out for with low k second hand 636's? apart fromt he obvious crash damage do these bikes suffer from any common problems that i would be able to notice on a test ride?

Thanks
Vukie

mate i got an 05 zx6r and these machines are bloody awesome. very sexy looking bike and they handle alot better than the cbr. if you want power, this machine has it and it eats up other 600s out there. cant go wrong with the 05 and 06 zx6r.

Mate, they are a damn fine bike. The extra 36cc give it that bit more oomph, and it's fairly roomy compared to other race bred 600s (including the 07 ZX6).

If you are prepared to travel for a bargin... http://www.ksrc-au.com/phpBB2/viewtopic ... sc&start=0

i had 6000kms when i picked it up so since ive picked it up, ive put 1000kms on it. the ninja picks up speed alot quicker than other 600s from a rolling start which i think is very useful for a road bike.

well I had an 05 ZX6R until I wrote it off.... and I still miss the biatch... was a pearler of a bike, but I have ditched the road riding for the track....

I only ever had one problem with mine... and that required a gearbox rebuild which ended up being a warranty job.... http://www.ksrc-au.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=7906

But overall i found it to be a great bike, once the suspension was set up for me it was sensational... it is a hell of a track weapon.... I did 19000km on it before writing it off, and it had a great seat ;) very comfy!

Hi Vukie,

I've got an '06 with 17000kms on it. I haven't had any problems with it.

For reference, my previous bike was an '01 ZX6
I originally had my heart set on the '05-'06, test rode it and rejected it as an option. I test rode a few more bikes, then for various reasons decided to get the ZX6 after all.
I fell in love with it. Now, it isn't possible to rave about it enough - just ask any of the guys I ride with regularly - they're sick of hearing me
The bike is amazing. The chassis is so confidence-inspiring, you just need to point it at a corner, it is very flickable and you are left with the feeling that the bike could've gone a lot faster through that corner... it's going to get me in trouble one of these days!
It still is a 636, so you *do* need to get it up high in the rev range to have fun - but that's what riding a 6 is all about anyway. It's a very smooth ride. And sexy. Set up the suspension when you get it though - it's not insanely hard, but is a bit hard for the road

I've heard a complaint about the right handlebar buzzing and vibrating so much that it makes the riders hand numb.
Anyone else experience this problem?
The owner loves the bike but is considering getting rid of it for this reason.
Cheers,
Pete
