01 zx9 Hp?

Postby MrStompy » Thu Oct 12, 2006 10:53 pm

Anyone know ball park figures for what HP the 01 zx9 got?
or what it should be getting?

I remember when the 2000 came out they were "claiming" something like 148 (i could be wrong on that - it was 6 years ago  ) but im not sure how close to that the store bought bikes were actually achieving.
i have no idea if there were performance improvents for the 01 model over the 00 either.

has anyone here dyno'd a standard 00/01 9 before? what did you get out of it?

now if you were going to mod your 01 zx9 to try and gain more horsepower (without going too silly) what would you do?
Im thinking full exhaust, air filter.
is there any other tricks?

Im trying to convince my bro that doing this to his 9 is a good idea

The usual is exhaust, filter, jetkit and possibly advancer. But it's a lot of bikkies for a fairly small performance gain, IMHO - but each to his own!

Stock I think they were 143HP, same as my '02 model (maybe 144). I had mine dynoed, stock, and it was 127RWHP. But not all dynos are equal, obviously. :P

Like most us I modded my bike with pipe, air cleaner and PCIII as soon as it got home.
Was it worth it - HELL YEAH
Will I ever use it - HELL NO
Dont you (both/all) think a '01 ZX9R has got enough already ???
Can you honestly use all its got ? etc. etc.
Just twist the throttle faster

Spend it on better tyres or better yet suspension to suit the rider (Race Tech and the like) or better leathers etc.

Nah, get a pipe ya wuss
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

The figure Kawi quote is usualy at the crank.

Rear wheel HP, on a dyno, is about 130 to 135.

My 98 with head work, akro, jet kit, advancer etc was about 148 rw hp..

It all depends on the dyno

yeah its got tonnes of power and yeah theres few who need the extra power but its a bit of a pissing contest isnt it. you want your car/bike to be a little different or better than the next.

and lets face it we all waste money on our bikes. Its half the fun of it.

Anyway its sounds like there isnt much minor stuff to do that will make that great an improvement to it. Its got a pipe (slip on only) and air filter. Will look into the jet kit and advancer though.

thanks for the tips.

my Z is stock, with 123hp at the wheel,
its enough to
- chew up tyres
- chuck wheelies
- keep up with much faster sport bikes
- and get booked

i want a 4 into 1, for sound and looks mainly.
what do you get for all the mods? an unreliable bike 8)

if done right then hell yeah, but truth is, how often do you need anymore than 140 rw hp??

I have the F model, Remove mesh from filter, Get a s lip on & re jetted with a dyno. After that money spent on an Ohlins will give better performance then engine work imho.

I'm 130 rwhp at Lae.

for once im gunna make a seriouis comment......

the pissing contest rarely involves pulling a dyno run sheet out in front of every one does it??

he can "claim" 300bhp, no ones gunna believe him unless he can
1. outride em thru the twisties
2.out wheelie/stunt them...

so rather than waste $$ trying to get 3 more hp, tell him to learn how to ride (a good track advancement course) or a suspension mods, or a 2nd bike to learn to stunt :D
