  Its probably one of the most significant Kawasaki's ever released !!!!

GpZ900R, released in Oz late 1984. First big-bore Kawasaki with 16" front wheel, engine was designed for minimum width (can-chain run up one side of the motor, not the middle), lots of changes from the previous big-bore air-cooled monsters.

Lots of things taken for granted today on current bikes, were absolutely cutting-edge on this model. It was the first new 'Kwakka 900' since the Z1 in 1972, so Kawasaki put a hell of a lot of time and effort into the release of this model.

Having said all that, the 1988-onwards models were the pick of the bunch, they had 17" front wheels, and upgrades to suspension, brakes etc, that carried over to the GPx and subsequent ZZR1100 models.........

A really good bike all round.

i knew it looked like a gpz900, but 1) i cannot read japanese and 2) i thought they were only displaying current models.

It was actually 1990 models on- they had the 17 inch front wheels, ZXR brakes and wider, more modern mirrors as well as a different dash which I didn't particularly like. I had an '89, (16 inch front wheel) which they detuned that year by fitting smaller carbs- 32mm instead of 34s. I think they wanted the then newish ZX10 to feel way faster than a GPZ9 if you rode them side by side- why would they detune them otherwise? 104 Hp instead of 114. :)
