hey,
i got a ZX7r 97' it's charging my battery at 15.6V @ 5,000rpm. should be 14v mark. now i've rang brighten kawasaki but they want $600 for a voltage reg, way over priced. i've removed the reg and been to jaycar to see if they can match one for me but they haven'y got any. need a 12v reg in a T03 body supposely. i was also going to get one from a wreckers but i rather buy a brand new one if i can. Has anyone else had this problem and how'd did u get around it???
Cheers
Sean

replace it with an R1 reg
http://www.vlc.com.au/~justin/about/bik ... place.html
all it does is reg the stator output , nothing special is required

can't fit a reg off a R1 because the zx uses an internal reg. kawasaki in ferntree gully is getting me a non-gen reg for $175 so i guest i'll just have to cop it. the uk site had one too but it waz 120 aus before shipping.

Yeah, regulator rectifyers are a rippoff..... Ive owned 3 hondas and they have all popped one..... Hondas are famous for it..... The first time i payed for a replacement honda one.... When that popped too I replaced it with an aftermarket one that had a heatsink twice the size and was a big boottie thing....

thought i'd update yas. put a new volt reg in, didn't fix it still over charging. even got a auto elect from work to look at it, don't know what's going on. pulled the alternator out now and sending it away

Yep exactly the same problem I just went thru with mine... Yeah they wanted $600 just for the little piece, thats not including shipping/frieght or labour... Now Im not a mechanic, far from it, so I will have to go back & get my mechanic to explain it to me again & I will let you know what was done if you would like.. But you can use a car one on the bike as what the mechanic here has done, instead of $600+ it cost me about $40 for a car one & then Labour... He has mounted it on the right hand side of my bike (As sitting on bike) under the passenger seat area.. Mine is working fine now....

if anyone has a zx7r 97' could ya do me a favour and just check your charge rate at the battery of your bike, check it @ 5,000Rpm. i talked to kawasaki brighton and they recon it's nothing to worry about but i believe 15.6 charging for a 12v battery/system is that bit too much.
