Hey guys, I just picked up a second hand Vance Hines exhaust which looked like a perfect fit for the old girl. Got her home a she looked like a straight swap, right up until I took the standard can off and noticed a piece that comes out of the link pipe and slides into the standard can.

Problem is the mouth of the new can is slightly smaller and wont accept the insert.

Im soooo close. I've included a few pics so you can see what I'm talkin about .
Is it possible that this piece is removable or is it a permanent attachment and I'm up shit creek. Oh and I'm fresh out of paddles too.

I thought I could have a link pipe made up but the whole exhaust appears to be welded with no bolts . So looks like the headers through are all one piece.

Am I missing something here or am I about to make my 3rd sale on ebay due to stupidity?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, if the insert on the stock pipe won't fit inside the can you bought, chances are it's not a ZX6 can. Which means that shopping the insert off could end up being an inconvenient way to find out the bolt pattern doesn't match up, either.

Have you measured the bolt spacing on the muffler and the flange?

Yeah and looks fine. Aside from the "insert" everything else is a perfect fit.

As for what bike it came off its an unknown. Thats why I only took it once everything else looked fine. Until I took the standard can off and spotting this stupid thing sticking out. Its not but a few mm to wide to go over it.

Didnt realise that would be there. I wsa going to pull the orignal off before going to get it but ran out of time and low and behold had misplaced the ratchet piece to undo the bolts.

Bugger it

You could machine out the mouth of the new pipe. That's what i would do. Any machining shop or engineering place could do that.
