If you had it certified you should be able to get insurance via Shannons, they do modified cars (Cortina with 302 windsor) and it was cheaper than the wifes stock standard Celica worth the same $$ amount.

I would be looking down that path, you may find it cheaper to have a modified 7 than a stock version

I read the 10% rule in the 'sunday mail' a few months back when they were trying to crack down on 'hoons' (queensland). They were refering to cars but I don't see why bikes should be any different. The copper was saying that generally 'any' mods done to the car was going to be illegal. Extracters added and tunned correctly would give 10% and therefore illegal. Re-chipping your car with aftermarket or OEM was also illegal.
Unfortunately we are the ones that get pinked for the rules. I bought a non-standard ZX7r which I knew was 793cc and had been tunned excessivly. I asked them about the 'roadworthy' just to see what they would say. 'She'll be right mate' was about all I got.
You can also by stock standard out of the box bikes which manufacturers are selling here which don't meet the road rules. They will only be picky things but if your acting like a complete toser, you'll get done for it. The cops generally won't pull over a stock standard bike for a roadworthy if you aren't doing anything wrong. They don't want the backlash just like Honda does not want to know about it either. It's all money in the pockets of our pollies and they just don't give a s#@t.

I just slotted a 94 ZX9 motor into my 93 ZXR750 R M1. Its a piece of piss to fit ( easier than checking your valve clearances) and you should be able to plug the 900 CDI straight in to your loom, run the 750 carbs, airbox, and zorst. Of course the external stuff is not optimal for the 900 donk as it stands but still a fair bit more stick than the 750. You can sort a more appropriate zorst and get the carbies jetted/fit 900 ones when you get to it. Now I'm just going to the shed to pull mine back out as 2nd gear is stuffed so I will have to slot the CR box out of the 750R motor. Don't know about the legality issues for NSW, wasn't planning on bringing it to anyones attention either, I think I've donated enough to the RTA already. Type "Andys ZXR page" into google and follow the links for a full demo on how to do the conversion if thats what you decide. My feeling is that if you are going to the effort of even just pulling the head off something you may as well make it quicker while you r at it.

sounds like a whole lot of frogshit to me. Unless its actually specified in the appropriate legislation, then anything designed to 'crack down on hoons', is more likely designed to 'sell a few Sunday papers', and make it look like the pollies are actually 'doing' something........

How the RTA (or Qld equivalent) could possibly test any motor vehicle to establish without doubt that it was putting out *10% more power than standard*, without going to huge expenses of dyno testing, having an established accepted baseline of HP in the first instance etc etc, for the hundreds of different vehicles on the road, is just beyond comprehension really...... :?

I think you are safe for the time being with a slip-on and a PCIII mate... , or to quote the shop....."She'll be right mate...."

Aaaah, for the good old days, when you ground off the '350cc' castings on your RD350 barrels, and punched in '250cc', to save a shitload of rego costs...  and convince your mates that the little 250 ring-dinger can *flog that shitbox Honda 4, ya wanker !!*

Just on the topic of 9R's engines, my '029R F1 went from low/mid 120's at the wheel in stock trim, to just on 130HP with a slip on Kerker pipe.

Dave at Dynobike in Moorabbin tuned it recently and reckoned he got another couple of horse power with a top notch tune job and better flowing filter (taking the before and after dyno charts at face value, it certainly looks like that).

He tells me that with a jet kit and tuning tweaks, he could get another 10 HP easy... that'd put it in the 140HP area without a huge effort.

Onya Dave!

Cheers
