How come my zx6r has no oil cooler? Could one be fitted if I wanted to do it?

Because it doesn't need one!

Sure, anything can be done if you try hard enough. Why are you after one? The engine is water cooled and although they run pretty warm I can't imagine one overheating readily.

The oil cooler is the finned part of your sump.... so you have one..

That'll be $50 including postage...

I am pretty sure that is not an actual oil cooler mate. My brothers 07 gsxr1000 has one and was just wondering why I dont have one.

It works like a heat sink to draw heat from the oil and cool it by air flowing thru the fins, this works in conjunction with the liquid oil cooler that runs the oil through a water encased area.

Sheesh, less time looking at your bike more time riding! No need to worry about such things

You're oil cooler will be like the part in the photo and the ones I've seen have the oil filter attached to it. Dunno what the GSXR has...

yep thats right neka. it has an oil cooler that looks like a small radiator.
I just thought it would be more efficient than heat sinkers and if its better.........the question is why doesnt the kawas have them?

the answer is that Kawasaki's superior engineering doesn't require the use of some tacked-on oil cooler.........

with all the additional hoses, clamps, and possibility of failure......

as madkaw pointed out.... it does have one....
http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/frames.cf ... rent=13420 then go and click on the hyperlinked oil cooler tab.... (

Re the lack of fins etc on it.... as it already gets cooled liquid from the radiator.... why would it really need more fins ?

mmm you really do learn something new everyday... looking at this I would have thought it was just an oil pump assembly
