ZX7R overheating problems I think

Postby GreenMan » Wed Nov 22, 2006 12:09 pm

Hi all i am new to this forum site but i thought this would be the best place to place my question.

Just got a zx7r for my birthday and i have had problems when the bike over heats and the fan kicks in the bike stutters in first gear and then turns off when taking of from a stand still. i keep taking the bike to the shop i bought it from they are saying its just the fuel and air mixture and that they adjusted it. It was still happening so i took it back but im thinking its something more if i had any other idea what it might be maybe i can suggest it to them so they can look at it. If its what he says it is then maybe it can put my head to rest as i am stressing that it may be something major.

Cheers

check your air filter. may need replacing.

Flush your radiator and make sure all the pipes are connected properly (teltale sign of a loose hose that may leak) is like white dribble marks where the coolant as evaporated after leaking out

Get a picture of Duane and you get an idea what the white dribble marks looks like... :D

I just got my overheating probs sorted, replaced thermo fan solenoid and thermostat just to be sure but turned out to be my water pump.

sorry maybe i did't explain myself correctly the bike ovcerheats normal just like any other bike but what my question is. say ive been stuck in traffic going to work and the fan kicks in i cant take off as the bike will just stutter as soon as i release the throttle it just turns off in 1st gear only if i rev the shyte out of it say 9k rpm i can take off but other wise have to wait for bike to cooldown before i can take off again withoiut the bike turning off.

hows the temp guage? because it sounds like its just getting hot, not really overheating yeah? (overheating would be getting into the red and pissing coolant out of the overflow when you turn the bike off)

being that this is the first hot weather my other halfs XJR400 has seen with us, we've just discovered a very similar situation. she doesn't have a temp guage or light though so i cant tell if its actually overheating or if its just playing up when it gets hot.

my thoughts are that its a fuelling issue related to the heat, possibly a bit of a vapour lock situation. the 7 shouldn't get this (neither should the XJR for that matter), so something may be wrong there. i'll let you know if/when i find anything wrong with malissa's bike, but for the time being, i just cant be stuffed taking the tank off again

i thought thats what you were saying :)

so your problem is not with the cooling system at all, it has to be the fuel or electrical system. fuel is more likely i think, but your spark plug leads or coils could be on the fritz too (they can play up a bit when they get hot if they're close to the end of their life).

looking over the fuel system will be cheaper than replacing leads/coils, better to start there IMO
