Just got me a dub bub and want to wire in a type of GPS unit and mount it on top of the instrument cluster.
Any suggestions for the best place to piggy back off a couple of wires for a 12V power source for the unit??
Cheers

mate u'd want to wire it to a place where there wouldnt be much spikes in the electrical supply.
Best would be off the battery via a fuse. See the mA rating of the unit and use a fuse to suit.

I have GPS on the 6R and could not see much difference with 9R, fairing etc. I connected the power to the city light (that small light in the middle). Easy and it is fused as well. The connection point is cigarette lighter (female) from supercheap auto.
Been connecting portable tyre pump with no problems as well.

MrMina, thanks for the suggestion. I considered the battery, but was hoping for a closer point - near the instrument cluster. Plus the unit has a built in fuse - so I was banking on that to allow me a quick fit up.
JavaMan - I think that might be the answer

That light is always on. A quick check with the multimeter for polarity and all will be well in a jiff.
Thanks guys.

You could always get a dicksmiths/jaycer inlne power filter kit that makes the power peak out at 12 maybe 13v or so so it doesnt smoke the gps?

The amount of current being drawn.. sweet fa.. I'd say the parking light would be fine, considering the loom to that wouldn't be under much load, compared to the head lights if you're running better than stock globs.

You may even find that there is an unused accessory fuse in the junction box you could run a wire from.

does it need both constant power and ignition power feeds to it, to keep settings (like a car head unit) ?

No the GPS unit doesn't need a constant source of power.
I have thought about the fuse box and battery - but they're plan B and C if there wasn't a suitable spot I could grab power near the instrument cluster.

Saw this old thread of mine.
FWIW, for the record, the F1/F2 ZX9R's have a spare slot in the fuse box which is labelled as "accessories". It's an available possy in the fuse box and is active when the ignition is on. I'm currently running heated grips and a basic GPS from that spot.
Very convenient Mr Kwakasan!
