Tyre Choice for 06 ZX6R Track Bike

Wed Dec 03, 2008 6:25 pm

 This is a simple one guys, no need for it to be a long winded debate about tyre choice, its just that the "Blue Bullet" 06ZX6R
has 2 almost new tyres on it neither of which type I have ever used before so the question is what am I to expect if I keep the following combination & use at the track : Front Bridgee BTO14 & Rear Dunflop sportmax GPR100.
I don't know if this is going to end in disaster or should I just go & get some known tyres & throw these ones on Fleabay.
NB they feel hard & a finger nail test leaves me wondering about how suitable these will be :?
Personally I would like to see a set of BT016's on the 6 8) ... main reason Is I can shag them on the track bike then swap them on to the zeddy to finish them off 8)

C'mon tyres are overated...old hard, mismatched tyres, she'll be right mate...

Go and get a new set, not worth being a tightarse when it comes to tyres I reckon.

I quite like 014s on the road and think they'd be OK on the track - not great but OK. Dunno about the rear dungflop though

014's suck!

016's much better, I think Madaz Performance may have a bunch of 'take off's' from the new Superbike school bikes that they are clearing....OEM ones are generally better than aftermarket bought ones also.I have some Qualifiers that have done one track day on my old 600 that you can have for $250, but you may have to make another trip to PI to pick them up! :D

Actually, I could possibly get them to EC......

Agreed Mark the 16's are a fantastic tyre, If I decide to get some more rubber it will be through my normal sources & at this stage looks like a set of pirelli slicks for the first few track days then on to the 16's later when I get settled with the bike, well thats the idea at the moment bduh.gif

They're great, and worked really well on Cath's 600 - much better than the 002s that were on it previously.

Dunlop 209s - $460 a pair and you can put em on your roadie when finished on the track.
Must be OK, the superstock and FX guys are doing 39's on em..

I run the perilli's on the trackie as well. great grip and wear. still a fair bit of dot left after the double header at PI (except for the left side  )

Thanks Russ thats what I want to hear ;) I have had another look at the original dunflop & ever as a new tyre it is rock hard  I think the tyres might have been the cause of the last owners demise, it seems to of had a front end wash out based off the marks on the unused edges of the front tyre
