ZXR750 J2 - Chain & Sprockets

Mon Apr 16, 2007 11:18 pm

Gday

I have to replace the sprockets and chain on my 1992 ZXR750 J2 and was wondering what I require? I have no idea on how many teeth each sprocket has and what size/length chain I require.
Also what brands are ideal and where is the best place to buy them, across the internet, for cheap and so forth?

Any help appreciated!!!

Thanks

Matt

I think its a 16 front and 45 tooth rear combo std in 530 size.
With the chain, you'll find most aftermarket ones will be 120 links which is plenty. I believe the zxr is 108 or 110.
Just grind off, then knock out a link to get it to the right length.
Look into getting a 520 chain and sprockets if possible. They are lighter and will add a little hp.

Okay, where is the best place to get these items?

Also, if i put a 520 setup on, wouldnt it decrease the amount of power it can take. Jeopodized strength?

It depends on were you are (you should fill out the location in your profile).
I got a front sprocket for $16 and the rear, in alloy (lighter) for about $70 and the chain was $150 all in 520.
As long as you buy a 520 chain and sprocket rated for a 750 it will be fine. I have an RK on my race bike and it does the job..

Im in Perth, WA sorry.
Can the sprockets themselves handle the power?

Yes the sprockets will be fine. The front will be steel and I'd suggest a hard anodised aluminium rear sprocket.
It doesn't have to be hard anodised, the ones on my zxr750r race bike aren't and the one on my zx9r race bike weren't either, but for longevity its a good option.
I've had alum rear sprockets on bikes with 150 rwhp and they are fine.
Not sure where to get stuff in WA. I got my front sprocket and chain from MAW in Sydney and the rear sprockets from E-bay uk.
I bought a rear (hard anodised alum) for my zx10r from the loacal Kawi shop and was $70 or $80.

Dude, any decent sprocket will have the number of teeth stamped on it. Failing that, a dealer will have a list of stock sprocket sizes.

The guys at Causeway Kawasaki will probably help you out over the phone.

As for chain, I'm not sure but whatever standards lengths are should be fine

and u are right..the 520 wont last as long as a 530...but if its for race use, go to a 520...

i did the conversion on a 929 blade and destroyed the chain pretty quickly...

i use 530 for road use...

Yeah i think ill just keep the 530 for now. Its easy enough.
Whats the score with these Hard Anodized Rear Sprockets. They actually any better then steel or?
