ZX10 to ZX7R

Sun Dec 03, 2006 10:27 am

Hi all

Just wondering how hard it would be to fit a ZX10 or ZX6 front & rear wheel on to a ZX7R? I need a spare set of wheels for the track bike.I
am looking for wheels lighter than stock.

How hard? Considerably, I imagine, because the chances are that everything which could be different between the two bikes will be different. Axle diameters, disc and sprocket offsets, you name it.

Because the 7R runs bigger discs than either the 6R or the 10R, but with different hub designs, you'd probably have to get some custom discs made up for the front, with the correct diameter, offset and mounting holes pattern to accomodate both the 6R/10R wheel and the 7R forks and calipers. Beyond that, you'll need custom wheels spacers both front and rear and, quite likely, custom axles.

In a recent issue of Performance Bikes, they did a write-up about a bloke who fitted a complete 10R front end to his ZX7...

At first glance it could be a labour intensive proposition, however, if you measure everything up, you may be able to find a compromise that works, where you only have to do one or the other to make it fit. Ie maybe custom spacers, or different disc carriers etc.,

I found a lot of Kawasaki stuff, to often have common measurements in certain areas. as An example, the GSXR100K2 calipers which bolt straight ont othe ZX6RF1 forks. Tokico make them, and usually they make there offsets common. So do some measuring, then some wreckers visiting with the vernier and you may luck it with some common bits.

Good luck.

maybe a zx9r can be interchangeable with the zx7r, but the zx6r runs a smaller rear rim.

as for zx10r, its a totally different rim.
