Hi,

i'm looking at buying a 2005 zx6r soon and would like to know if anyone has made any warranty claims or had any problems with theirs at all.

Hey Wes,
only issue I have had was with changing over the pipe to an aftermarket, and that was a Micron issue not a kawasaki issue (needed a ay to correct the powervalve(no longer used) and trick the ECU) but my Kawa dealer actually came up with the solution for me.

It's nice bike definitely but look into kawiforums.com (us-based) where some ppl complained about engine noise (rattling?).

People have complained about that with the 03/04 model too.... (or at least I have)...

Yeh I've got this with mine, really pissing me off, it's so friggin noisy. Sounds like the tappets on an old cluncker of a cage. I think it started getting noticable after about 10k

Have just clocked over 16k kms and it seams to be getting worse, they better bloody sort it out soon, stopping by the mechanics on teh way home again this arvo.

There has been a lot of talk about this tapping noise. With 13km on the clock mine certainly makes some music. However, it tends to do it at the end of the oil life and a changing it fixes it instantly. When I moved to full-synthetic (Silkolene Comp-4) the noise was improved dramatically.

From what I am told and have heard on other 636s the noise is very much normal. Yours might be something else though. But compared to a Gixxer mine sounds like a Lexus.... silent.

Moving away from that the bike has been faultless. The factory suspension settings suck (unless you are 75kg I guess) and should be adjusted as soon as you have broken the shocks in.

If you can summon the capital get yourself the Akra system/slip-on. Aside from being quite loud (compared to other pipes) it is an awesome upgrade. Flattens the power and gives you a fair bit more torque throughout the range. Oh, and sounds friggen great.

Finally, if you are over 5ft tall you are going to need an aftermarket double-bubble screen. I use and recommend Puig and most people agree. It will transform the cockpit and make the instrument cluster usable.

PS. as you can see I love my bike and if left alone will rabbit on a bit.

Love my zx6 - bought in april this year and not a problem with it - I've heard about the rattle but none so far although I'd only done 6000 on the clock before the off.

I found the price more than reasonable for the bike - I got mine a Bkawa for $14700 on road. Insured with GIO including a free replacement screen per year at a very reasonable price.

When she comes back from Bkawa (being fixed after the off) I wil put the double bubble on - one of my friends did it and loves it - at 5'9 it will be worth the investment for me.

My only complaint is that it has nowhere for me to carry my crutches...

Work did mine, bike is now quiet as, not a rattle to be heard, and bike has 21,000km on it.

Some 05's the bolts/screws are vibrating loose, only prob apart from the exhaust I know of.

yeh, trouble is it isn't a ten minute job to do the cam chain tensioner on the 05, bits and pieces need to be removed to get to it. Am looking for a service manual if anyone has access to one, might do it myself, instead of booking it in at the mechanic and having to have a crappy loaner for the day.

Will look at changing the oil tonight, I have a 400km round trip coming up this weekend, if it doesn't fix it and I can't find a manual then I spose the mechanic can do it at the 24k kms service, that's only 3 months away anyway.

samhasa636 - was thinking about the double Devil's for her, might have to check the akra's out, I'm 5'10" but don't seem to have any trouble seeing the instruments (might ride funny ) with the stock screen, do get a little bit of a buffering though when up at the speed limit . Might invest in DB soon.

Seen any instructions anywhere? Should I get a mechanic to do it or is it so easy I can do it myself?

apparently it's easy but i have no idea myself (working for bike shop rocks btw) I just asked the service manager what they did to it
