ZX6R 09+ GP shift

Can anyone tell me if it's possible to run GP shift on the OEM rearsets? I know you can do that on some bikes by just turning stuff around, I was wondering if I could do this on the 6R 'cause that would help me A LOT!

I wouldn't see why not. Just change the shift rod connecting the the selector spine from the bottom to the top.

If you're running GP shift and have your foot under the lever you're about to downshift. Now why would you drop a gear mid/after the turn??

I don't consider myself track rider yet, so I am more than happy to be emiducated. I don't drop gears mid corner, I choose the appropriate gear just before I enter it and stick with it.

With the GP shifter, I can see with this orientation you can change gears while in a corner if you need too without having to fumble your foot under the lever; Also gives your bike a "free imobiliser", confuse the fark out the thief trying to ride off with it.

I brought the foot under the shifter lever issue up because if your leaning way over and you have a big foot, what's the chances of it being yanked off the peg and under the bike?

Going from GP shifter bike than back to a normal shifting pattern bike and vise versa on a regular basis, would probably confuse a lot of riders. I dunno maybe I'm getting old and its getting harder for me to concentrate, unless you have a nice rack(1).

hahaha Yeah... I had a roadie once and it was a street shift but now I only have a track bike and the previous one was GP shift so I want to stick with that to avoid any more dramas!

Similarly when replacing rearsets or rebuilding its a good idea to check the lever is appropriate to your shift pattern before riding away

I did it yesterday but it doesn't line up properly. Well... it does, but then I can't tighten the bolt because of the engine case. It's prob 90% lined up though. I tried and it works well but I'm worried about putting too much stress on the rod.

Im not near my bike at the moment to check but Im assuming its to far forward cause the rod length is too long? Shorten the rod or buy another shorter rod and keep the other?

No, the problem is the "T' thingy that you have to turn around (the part that connects to the rod). So if I turn it a bit less than 90º I can put the bolt in but if it's at 90º it doesn't allow for enough clearance to put the bolt in.

Thats fine no dramas. The idea is to have the linkage and shift rod at 90deg to each other. The is room for movement so it doesnt need to be exact.
