There seems to be an aweful lot of "RR"s appearing on eBay lately. Are they really RRs? Whats the easiest way to tell from a distance.

Looks to have the adjustable swingup pivot... good
Engine number and VIN at first glance seem to back up the theory, but BuyKawasaki doesn't recognise the VIN (haven't tried with my valid VIN, maybe it only picks up yank bikes)


So what are the differences between a R and a RR. Did they have different shocks or anything else? Different gearbox ratios?

The most obvious change is they are 600cc not 636cc's, so if its a 600 its an rr...
I'd say a lot of em are ex race bikes, always check the sump drain bolt, filler cap, radiator cap etc for a holes for lock wiring to see if it was raced.

Close ratio gearbox, very tall first gear, adjustable swingarm pivot, different cams, mapping exhaust. And there may be a few other changes that I can't remember.

A 636 is a better road bike. Sure for out and out racing it may handle a tad better, and be more adjustable, but my stock 636 would keep with the current crop of SS race bikes at a ride day, with racers on them, so I would prolly just go a 636 if your looking to upgrade. Plus as some others have suggested, look for lockwire :wink:

599cc in SA saves ya abt $200 or so on rego every year...and insurance... 600cc is the cut off...

Just for an update.....

Bike wasn't for me, rather my brother in law. Typical lying ebay prick. Everything had been lockwired; fairings were shmick, but the gouges in the petrol tank lid told otherwise; Nothing adjusted correctly, 2-3cm play on the clutch and throttle; No rego (no mention of that); And compared with what I'm used to on the 636, ZERO midrange. I couldn't get it to lift its head at all. So quite a dissapointing trip to Ballarat.

Yeah Maty, midrange on a race track is like 10,000rpms!!! :lol:

you mean the lack of rego plate in the pics wasnt a giveaway ;)

If i was you i would setup a bodgy ebay account and do a buy it now ;)

then leave neg feedback :D

Race regulations require bikes to have any fluid retaining nuts/bolts to be drilled and have special locking wire inserted. It ensures that if a nut/bolt comes loose, the lockwire holds it from completely undoing, in theory.

look for signs of holes that have been drilled into sump plugs, radiator caps, hose clamps, oil cooler bolts, brake caliper bolts and oil galleries.

Other signs of race work are scuffed rims from numerous tyre changes, brand new road gear with low mileage speedos, striped or worn nuts or bolts, and nuts and bolts not in matching sets. :)

not to mention the lack of mirrors prob didnt help....
little things that u can pick up on like that can be a give-away...

but since the bikes prob had the speedo disconnected..otherwise maybe it is only 5800km of valve bouncing racing??

What a cracker about selling the bike with advertising "has not been raced" with all the evidence all over it :roll: Hes looking for the 5% buyer who has no idea and/or does not do his homework on the bike hes going to buy. Good luck dick wad! shits me when people do this, especially car salesman. I once was interested in this car so I rang and asked if the car was still for sale as I was coming from a long way. They said yes but when I got their I saw the car out the back with the sold sign on it (this is same day) I asked a sales man when the car was sold they said 2 days ago :evil: :evil: .So I left an unhappy camper, and told them what I thought of them. Just wastes everybody's time and not going to give you a good rep (bit different private I know).

mate i once raced to get to sydney from moss vale...drove like a nutter to get there to test ride a cbr (98) they had advertised (after i had called and arranged it)..got there & they wouldnt let me ride it...so i told em to sod off, went back home & rode a bike (private) the next day...

paid $10,500 cash the next day...and the bike is still my pride ....however the 98 cbr i wanted to ride was $3k cheaper & what i wanted at the time...glad they were assholes now...
