I've started doing some research into tank protectors (the ones that can top your belt buckle scratching your tank), and have not found much range out there...mainly found some budget items like MCA and PRO-GRIP...

has anyone fitted a tank protector and are they good long term? i.e. they don't deteriorate/unstick...

what brand
how much
where from ?

P.S you get MEGA bonus points if you're willing to supply a pic...

I've got a carbon fibre one, it seems to be ok. But I also use a bagster tank cover, which is great. Same colour as my tank/bike.

I need to get a tank protector for my bike as well. I would like to get something to protect the sides, because my knees scuff the tank up. I know you can get clear ones that protect the side, but they end up looking like shit, after a while. Unless they have improved now?

i got one they are good and do actually protect the tank.

a mate has one that has began to unstick.

I've got a carbonfibre one on the 636, it came from geelong carbon craft, thats geelong in ??QLD?? about $130 from memory. Its been on for about 18monts & just under 12000km.

I put a cheapie on last week, clear plackie one ($15) that looks like a rib cage and only just goes to the top of the tank, more importantly i took the buckle of my jacket and replaced with 2 sets of press studs. Press stud kit cost about 20 bucks easy to punch holes in the jacket strap so it now does up either side of the strap.
Noodle isnt just for filling me helmet after all.

I have clear protectors on the side of my tank...proper Kwaka ones
that I put on when I bought the bike...so they have been there just on 10 year...and look ok....and they were cheap (at the time!)

I evaluated a CF one, a black plastic one, a shiny alloy one(very expensive) a clear plastic one and a black rubber one (closed cell foam actually)
personal choice...
but I got the foam rubber one....10 years later
it is still protecting......cost back then ...about $10....

with the tank protectors the foam ones are really shit becuase they wear really quick and start to lose foam and it looks dodgy.

has on on my gpx when i bought it and then took it off beacuse it looked shit house beacause it started to wear really bad.

ps. i got scratches on my tank after removing it.

After spending too much money on clear plastic, carbon fibre and foam tank protectors, I gave up. They peel off, get air bubbles inthem, or deteriorate and look shit!!

So, I bought a proper one from Kawasaki in the US. Got it delivered to a mates house and he sent it over.

It fits great, is EXACTLY the same colour as the bike (with the same nice glossy look) and works a treat. It was on special for $9.95 US (down from 90 bucks!!). They still have some left in other colours, and I'd recommend that people buy them.

I don't have a picture of the bike with it on, and I'm not about to go outside at 1 am and take one. Besides, the bike is bloody filthy. Havent washed it in over a month, and I ride it to work in the rain.

Below is a picture of one from the Kawasaki website.... To see other stuff in their range, go to Kawasaki.com choose motorcycles and then accessories. Choose your model bike and then the year from the drop down menu and follow the bouncing ball. They still have plenty of stuff on special.

Having said all that, i don't think they have any for the lil' 250.

Damn, I can't ZZR ones blue on their site. Can only find black Ninja embossed ones. I've sent em an email to ask....

the geelong carbon fiber tank protector is the one and it does the trick.

Jase is right, some ar just nasty after they go on.

accessories for the ol gpx (a battery and some oil , and the geelong
carbon craft guys don't do anything for it either...

It can be hard having a 250...some people think just because it's a
smaller, cheaper bike that you don't want to take care of it!

Good news...i saw my bike on the weekend and they reckon I'll have it
back mid week!

The other option is that you clean the bike really, really well, and stick some clear contact on it until you sell it.
