Shoei XR 12

Postby bjn_42 » Tue Nov 05, 2013 5:11 pm

So I rode my bike to work last week, dismounted, rested my helmet on the fuel tank while I took my boots and gloves off...then crash! Helmet smacks onto the road. DAMMIT! I had a look and there wasn't any bad scratches but I just didn't feel safe wearing it anymore.

So when the weekend came around I went to my mechanic for a chat and he sells me this MM replica.

Very comfy and a little bit less noisy on the highway.

As your head wasn't inside it when it hit the deck, the foam impact liner would not be affected ..... I'd keep wearing it. 8)

Yeah, I'm battling with the logic too.

Wont wear a name-brand helmet because worried about it's safety after it had a low energy impact - buys cheapie replica no-name brand helmet...

Maybe it's just me.

If mine fell off the tank I'd toss it in a flash. It's my head and as far as I'm concerned it's worth more than $800. Not sure that you'd call Shoei a cheapo no name helmet though :?

Nice helmet and nice design.

Note for future though. Never hang your helmet any where above about 2 ft off the ground ;)

Ahhh! My bad!

I read the above story that that the top pic was the old helmet that fell and the bottom one was the new one and that MM was the brand...

I'll pull my head in now.

This isnt the first time I had dropped it. This drop sounded bad though.

A drop from handlebar height will not affect anything but the paint finish. It's the internal polystyrene shell that absorbs the impact in an accident, when the helmet is on your head. :)

That's probably true of the 1942 German army helmet you wear around but I wouldn't count on it for a multi layered laminated lid :P
