How to clean leathers so they don't smell

I was wondering if there is anyone in sydney or Illawarra that cleans leathers or dry cleans cause my race leathers stink of sweat, any ideas or suggestions would be great, cheers Steve

I asked Irena, this was her reply -

I would try to wipe it with the wet cloth or simply take it to dry cleaner. Saying anything about dipping into the water, if they over do it the leathers could go straight into rubbish been. So just tell them to rub it with wet cloth and maybe wearing skins in future can help.

I threw mine in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with a some washing powder (twice) and then hung them up to dry out of direct sunlight and they were dry and smelling nice and clean within a few of days. Admittedly they were a little harder to put on the first time after cleaning them but it didn't take long before they were back to normal. I was told you shouldn't get them wet or put them in the machine because they will get ruined and fall apart but I figured I ride in the rain and they are made to withstand high speed slides down the race track, so what harm could the machine really do especially on a gentle cycle.

yep - do it in the sunshine and apply liberally with a 1" paintbrush. This will help the leather dressing to soak into the leathers and they should fit back on like normal next time around.

You would probably use a whole 500g tin of leather dressing on a race suit.
