Whats good for leather care?

Postby Juggy » Sun Feb 24, 2013 10:51 am

Hi all,
Was wondering what is good for looking after a leather suit. I bought Dubbin but I'm worried that the "cream" will clog the perforations in the suit. Can only imagine how much my life will hurt if I have to pick that shit out of every perforation hole.
So let me know what you use on your leathers and maybe why you use it.
Thanks

I use regular leather moisturiser... I think I got mine off a shoe shop, but it doesn't really matter. I had the Dainese one that came with the suit and they're pretty much the same thing.

I use Mothers Leather Conditioner which you can get from most car assessory shops. It's a cream which is easy to apply and keeps them really soft. I use it on my car seats and thought I'd try it on the Dianese leathers and been very happy with the result. I just wipe off any road splatter or dirt with a damp cloth first but they also have a leather cleaner that you can use before the conditioner if you really get your leathers dirty on a regular basis.

I have found that sliding down the road is not good for them with or without cream

just apply whichever leather conditioner you buy with a small paintbrush - its easy to apply like this. Then sit the leathers out in the sun. Any tiny bits of conditioner left in the holes will dry out pretty quickly. Personally I use GeWy leather food. Its old-school but it works really well. Any good quality horse shop (saddles etc) will be able to help you out.

and I'll get this in before anyone else does......Dubbin *does not* rot the stitches in your leather suit.....

I've been using sweat and rain on mine for the last 5 years. Works a treat and doesn't cost a cent.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Someone else has mentioned this stuff to me. What consistency is it? Is it like shoe polish or a liquid?

the only reason I am still wearing the same Alpine Star MX boots after 32 years - Roger De Coster Gen2 to be exact .......is because the leather has been treated properly. Sweat and rain only, I would have expected about 5 years out of them.
