Appreciate some advice about a good pair of winter gloves - that aren't too heavy & bulky, if there is such a thing. I've had (& sold) gloves that were reaonably warm but didn't like them because their bulk affected steering feel. Don't want to get heated grips because won't use it for 50 weeks of the year. Thanks in advance.

the problem with winter gloves is...they are also waterproof
and that along with the linings (for warmth) make them reasonably heavy

best bet is to walk into a trusted bike store and go try on lots of gloves and ask questions
I did and now have 2 sets...one heavy water proof set which go under the seat for use when it chucks it down
and another warm set for normal winter days not as heavy still allowing good feel and will get thru a brief shower without getting soggy

I've been using Dianese D-Dry for 2 winters now thanks to Phil.

When I first put them on they felt puffy but light, but after some use they've thinned down considerably and are extremely comfortable and keep my digits warm and dry.

I bought a set of Dainese earlier this year and they are sensational. Not as sexy as Tims but very good and quite light

I have a set of Sprogs for sale that have been worn twice because my hands are too fat for them. I had to buy huge bulky gloves instead. Lucky for you they have come down in price a lot since I bought them and since Glen bought his so you are getting a great glove for not much.

Spidi H2O waterproof/windproof race type glove, not bulky at all...

The best winter glove that i can not find would have a normal leather palm etc but just the thermal fleece etc on the back of the glove/fingers etc...

I am using the A* TechRoad GTX gloves. Even though they are winter, they are quite light. I have now done a proper wet test on them, so quite happy. The Gore Tex membrane inside it keeps your hands dry as well. Win-Win

sold as scooter gloves but they do the job for touring and are light.
I have heated handgrips though. Done long rides in pissing rain with them. I'm im Melb so cold is an issue.
Alpinestars call them scooter gloves, I think because there's no hard knuckle protection etc.

I've tried glove liners in the past and they help a bit.

The Dainese Double Carbon are D-Dry not Goretex, its the same thing but Dainese's own version. They are a quality product and pretty good value too

They are great gloves - but - seeing as I'm old I have put heated handgrips on both bikes, I have little to no need for heavy gloves anymore .

Except when riding in the snow on other peoples motorcycles that are not so well equipped - best make sure that they are ready for action

I've had heated grips for the last ~4 years now, since then my winter gloves have seen no use at all. but yes being prepared when on other people's bikes without heated grips is good like phil said.
