Reevu helmet. Anyone got one?

Postby olcoop » Fri Nov 12, 2010 5:04 pm

There is an old thread from '96 about these lids, but it seems that they're only just hitting our market.
Has anyone got one or knows someone who has tried them out?
I reckon I'd get one if they fitted nicely and had a good rating.

As far as I know they haven't gotten AS/NZS1698 approval for them yet and, according to someone whose gone through the process for their own range of helmets, it's touch and go if they ever will.

Ok. Thanks for that.
They must be getting close to having approval in Au because they are advertising in Australian magazines.
I'll keep an ear to the ground.

Nope it is not happening soon - if you look at their ads and web site they are targeting NZ because NZ accepts the ECE standard which the reevu passes

why does it pass the ece and not the AS1698 -- because the ece helmet standard does not do penetration testing

The issue with the reevu is the rear lens at the back of the helmet -- it can not pass the penetration testing

now consider this --- your head has a really good chance of getting hit at the back in a big fall - the same point where the reevu fails

also the internal rear view mirror projects into the helmet more than 2 mm from the external skin

I am not saying its a bad product or idea - in fact it is a good idea - just that in its current form and materials it will not pass our standard
