Leathers on e-bay

Postby PeteZX12 » Fri Sep 24, 2010 10:04 am

Anyone have any experience with leather pants on e-bay? New boxed & tagged Alpinestars race pants being offered for $200 to $400 (rrp $600). Too good to be true?

We get roughly one email a week from companies trying to sell us leathers made from a stolen pattern. I always have a look at them cos sometimes they can be pretty hilarious with pictures of their grubby workshops and low quality wares. While I'm sure there's plenty of bargains out there, it can be a gamble. Have a look at these :

Bought my Leather pants A* track pants for $399 US + i think 25 shipping. Back then the US was stronger, so cost me a total of $450. Cheapest in the shop is probably $650.

They are genuine, they can sell A* stuff cheap becuase they have the buying power in the USA.
I was in the bike shope talking about bike gear, the big manufacturers can sell the gear much cheaper to the US compared to Australia. They said that one stage a shop in the US was selling yoshi pipes for cheaper than they could buy them from the manufacturer.

Now with the strong dollar you can get good deals off ebay. Best to buy off someone who has alot of feedback, not some dodgey back yard operators.
Let the good times roll.

Yeah might explain why it's so hard for me to sell my leathers at the moment, bought brand new spyke leathers from o/s and sidi boots, totally my own fault for not going and trying them on first but looks like I will be loosing out as I can't sell the stuff, so next time they are up they will be going for dirt cheap :( ebay is ok but as zx-10r said just check out the persons feedback and ask lots of quesitons.

best idea is to go to a shop try on as many brands as you can till the shop dude kicks you out, take note of sizes!!
Also some counterfit brands may have ur size.. on the tag.. that comes down to buyer beware, i bought a jacket supposed leather off ebay it said xxl...........XXL if you were the biggest 10 year old in your grade.. so i gave it to my nephew for his birth day, now he is slightly cooler than me.
Most Stuff from usa is fine. NEVER BY HELEMTS (thats a no brainer) but keep in mind if you buy from ur local motor bike store you helping out the store dude.. keep buying of the net.. local shop will close down and we'll all have to shop at team moto!! :( :prayer:

Cause they dont pass Australian Standard AS 1698-1988. You can only legally ride on the road in Aus with the AS sticker on your lid - which you dont get if you buy from overseas :kuda:

true, except sometimes the local shop deserves to be closed down. Ie, ordering boots and still not having them 4 weeks later LOL. Ordering helmet, taking litterally 2 months +. Could have got them from the US probbably 3/4 the price with express shipping 5 days.

I dont mind paying for good service, advice and peace of mind. But when you get shit service and months of waiting, (becuase the shop tries to save a couple of bucks and choose the slowest courriers or postal methods), your getting screwed. :x

I often considered buying a cheap exact same helmet from USA, out of the 4 helments i own i've never had them checked. I suppose it depends on which cop gets you where and what day etc.
Is it regulated at track days and or races?

So true, there are a few near me that arent that bad, but i know what you mean with bad customer service, i guess im more tolerent than most, However team moto are pretty good, i just think they STING ya on price, they have such a huge range, and usually can get it if they dont. i try on jackets gloves boots and helemts almost every time i go there. Still havent bought anything from them. :D
