Helmets..?? Whats Hot.?

I'm thinking about updating my AGV Rossi X-vent as there seems to be some good deals on helmets atm.

I know these are cheapies, but has anyone got one or know about these.

Lazer - Tornado
HJC - Crevier or King Mingus or whatever they are called.
KBC - ?

Anthing else anyone can suggest.??

I've been out of the helmet buying market for a few years so I need to catch up..

Lazer... they look crap, feel nasty and are probably both.
HJC - seem to have become increasingly popular are fairly comfortable and mine saved my scone when I came off.
KBC - have some really funky designs coming into the country (like the matt army camo job!) and have fairly plush lining.

When I buy helmets, I refuse to pay more than about $650 for one, I always get a size smaller than I think I need (generally I buy a medium) and I go for the one that looks the coolest.

Your helmet becomes your identity when you are wearing it, so I try not to pick the same one everyone else seems to be wearing for that particular month.

I dont really kno a great deal about the Lazer one but heres my rundown
HJC - suck, I have one ATM and im not hapy with it in general, though I dont have the model youre after so that model might be of higher quality than mine.
KBC - Look to be very good, theyre gonna be my next pick, I was gonna pick up a VR1 this week but I think I might get some gear for my bike first because KBC have released a new range and I wanna see when theyre coming to Aus.
The "matt armo camo job" is a VR1 which is IMO the best value for money helmet on the market but its also discontinued, replaced by the VR2. The camo one, which is actually caled the "combat" was also never available in Aus according to my local dealer, along with the green one, which sucks because they were the best color schemes.
Have a look at their website and youll see some really cool brand new models.

I bought an Arai NR5 for $429...good helmet at a good price - end of model run, might still be some around.

I have tried my sis-in-laws HJC CL14(? I think that's the one), and found it noisy. But then I find the Arai noisy, but better ventilated than my HJC ZF-8.

I'm with aardvark - not much need to spend more than $650 - you can get a BMW Sports Integral for that. Plenty of choice now...

The missus had a HJC, she threw it away after 2 months she said it was crap.
I have a KBC it's rubbish but yeah looks good, noisy, fogs up in microseconds but comfy. did i mention damn noisy.
Shark bought the missus one $600 on special fan bruddy tastic she luvs it, i've tried it and its sweeeeet

I think it was Parra Bikebiz that were doing last years Rossi reps (AGP) for $550(recently).
When I was in the market for a new helmet 12 months ago I tried King Mingus and amongst the slightly cheaper helmets they seemed to fit the best.
I was lucky, got myself a Shoei Rf 900 blade(in green!) $450 on special at parra Kawa, I think its try and see and hope you can pick up a good deal.
I'm sure end of season comes round about May/June,not sure, but a bargain can be found.
Last years Rossi helmet looks cool tho!

i had an hjc cl-12 before my shoei xr-1000, it wasn't that much worse, bit heavier, bit noisier, large shell with extra padding instead of a medium shell, shoei has heaps better ventilation. but the hjc was also half the price.

FWIW I've got a KBC and I like it... It fits me well and has all the features I need, but as mentioned, it is a bit noisy...

It does come down to what's on the shelf when you go looking and what sort of bargain you can drive IMO though...

But if I had to buy again I'd buy this exact helmet in this exact colour:

I have one of them to... It's a great helmet. Excellent fit, low noise, great ventilation and it was free. Hahahahahaha.. The only thing is, it really doesn't look that good.

It's good to see at least one helmet manufacturer realising that the purchaser wants to buy cool looking helmets. The funkier the paint schemes the better IMHO.

having just replaced the helmet...for obvious reasons
I went thru the whole thing of helmet hunting....
and
1) i can't knock the Laser helmet Jan had... it fitted well
was quiet and did what it is meant to do
but they don't fit my head
Some don't like them , but Vic Police have been wearing them

2) I tried Arai (Bkwaka had a few 2004 models they were quitting)
prices were good..again no fit on the noggin..VERY tight across the forehead

HJC? I found a current one when trying helmets, fit was good
price was good but I did not like the colour scheme
price..around $350

Shoei..my old fav..have had a number of them over the years
great fit for me (always have been quiet) but I can't justify spending
a minimum of $650-700 for the current base model..solid colour
(..they may be cheaper if last years models though)

AGV was my prior helmet and it did its job too in the crash
so back to them.... good fit, quiet, had spare visors
and I could get the latest street version of Rossi's helmet
the x-vent ti Tech ..without the #46 and visors with tearoffs
for $500

The KBC VR1 is very comfy, has good ventilation, looks good (especially with a tinted visor) and is good value. On the down side it is a bit noisy especially with the stock visor. I tried many others and the KBC felt similar to (& in most cases better than) the $500+ Arai & Shoe helmets. Thinking of buying one for my missus.

My helmet's the same as Felix's. It's 3 years old and still fits like a glove. A little noisy, though. Comfiest helmet I've worn, btw. Wouldn't have bought it otherwise - I had my eye on a Shark.
