G'day guys,

we as a few of u might know i managed to have 2 stacks in 2 weeks.
1st. Too much front brake
2nd. Large Roo.

Anyway i just wanted to say how great my Alpinestars TZ1 leather jacket was and Alpinestars Gloves.. FANTASTIC i hit the deck and just simple slid along the ground only to have some light scuffs....

On the other hand tho my draggin jeans ripped apart in the knees. My knee is still not so great at the moment and is still healing up (After 3-4 weeks) and is sitll bruised. But i was quite surprised that they actually ripped apart and my knee was all cut open.

Helmet got few scratchs and scraps, but had my Shoei XR-1000 now for 2.5Years and quite possibly time for a new one, even perhaps a ZX10R Crim Spec!

Yeah should have added them, both where roughly 50km/h Didn't hit anything just went for a slide down the road maybe 20-30ms before stopping and wasnt really sliding all that fast, 2nd hurt the most, as my knee seemed to be the first thing that hit hte ground and it really took a bad blow!

If it was just draggin (no padding) jeans you are lucky your knee is still there

Good to hear your relatively OK mate. That's a bit surprising re the draggins though. I've never had a pair but I would've thought they stuck together better at 50k's

There aint no substitute for good old leather though

ive seen this before on another ride where the jeans ripped open directly below the Kevlar and opened the up rider, right down to the bone.

thats when i decided leathers only for me. unless they make completely Kevlar lined jeans i think this will always be the case.

I am a little bit worried about jumping back on!! I accept that riding is dangerous but i am just concerned if my head had clipped a pole or a tree stump or anything for that matter!

If i jump back on definately Leather pant! Big thick ones!
I am very lucky also that nothing was broken! YIKES!

But then i think well i have been riding for almost 4 years now and this is the only time i have ever had a stack. My riding record is even better/safer than my driving record!
But that being said still an ounce of doubt in my mind!!

I'm still sketchy after my off. I'm more alert of leaning it over, more so, I think I'm kinda afraid to. I know I got off lightly, it could've ended a lot worse for me. I'm happy cruising around corners at a good place, however as soon as someone ups the ante, I get kinda worried and start running doom situations in my brain. I kinda guess if I keep riding it'll pass, but until then it's still in the back of my head.

I currently don't have leathers, which I think will help with my confidence a fair bit. So I think that'll be my next investment. Also need some new boots as my old ones are farked from the crash.

I'm also going to do a superbike school. Maybe they can show me what the best way is to do things, and I'll regain my confidence that way. The more you do things, the better at them you become!

Anyways, that's my little vent

Yeah Benno, thats sort of how i feel, i know riding can be safe, i have been for sveral years and never had a problem!! But i love biking sooo much and it runs through my veins and i really want to get back into it, but just makes me think sometimes if i had a stack and ended up in a wheelchair or something like that how much i would have regretted it......

I know life is short and whatever but its a tough choice to make!

well ii went for my first ride again today my mate let me ride his 05 R1 all day while he rode his streetfighter~!!!

I have crashed in a pair of draggin jeans a few years ago and they did fine, but I didn't actually wear through the denim anywhere, so the kevlar didn't have a chance to do its thing. I rode once in draggin's a few months ago and felt completely naked and vulnerable - I'll stick to my leather duds thanks very much.

Dave your completely right! Its just a trust thing i spose! And be cautious!

I rode a ZX10R 04 today and loved it, i felt super confident on it (not crim confident... yet) But bikes ridden at a sensible pace really made me feel safe and at home!

Mmmm well after my experience on the w/end and sus'n out a mates draggin jeans at hospital yesterday - I know why I wear leathers and nothing but tbh!!
From my perspective it was not a fast crash (40-50km), from the riders perspective (70-80km)... nevertheless his draggin jeans including the kevlar had a hole in the knee? WTF? I always thought they were good for 15ft or so (if my memory serves me correctly ) and he didn't roll or slide that far - yet there is a pretty good size hole in the knee, so wots with that?

I own a pair of draggin jeans - the old style, a pair I've had for years; but imho after owning and riding in leathers... for me there is no other option. But thats me!!
I haven't come off (touch wood), not at a speed worth mentioning anyway, so cannot relate to how you are feeling. I do however, tend to ride below 100% of my ability, because my aim is to (a) stay in one piece and (b) stay upright. For me, I guess I can still get the adrenalin factor happening and when you do $2.00 or so, stuff goes thru your head (well, mine anyway) - maybe that's just an age thing tho?

Anyway, for me leathers, alpinestar or good protective boots, good helmet and solid knuckle gloves.
