Leather suit requirements

Hey guys & girls.. I'm looking to buy some new riding gear..

ie: leathers for the first time to do some decent long distance riding.

But before I do, can anyone advise what the minimum requirements are in terms of protetction to be able to do track days at eastern creek etc? Can it be a 2 piece zip off suit? or does it need to be single piece? and does it require armour inserts?

Can anyone recommend a great place to buy/have one made in sydney? I am after all black... or black with a few green bits :D

Thanks!

The requirements for trackdays are a minimum of 2 piece leathers that zip together. I've got a set of Collins leathers and think they're pretty good for the price (they're about $700 from memory). A lot of people complain about the all-black trousers, but if you want all black that won't worry you! Cath got a set of DBT leathers custom made (lots of $$) but they're so soft, supple, light, etc that they still represent great value.

There's quite a few bike shops in Parramatta, and a wander between them will give you an opportunity to try on lots of different 'off-the-shelf' sets.

Kind of ... but it's not been updated since 2005 (and the prices are way higher than current prices) but you get an idea of the stuff they make at http://www.collinsleathers.com/.

they post it to you, if its wrong, you send it back and they send you right stuff.

you wont find collins in the shops, they only do online.

Yes they do. Bikebiz has some 1 piece suits in stock, and I got mine from the Helmet Warehouse.

EDIT: Having said that, I'd order them direct if I wanted another set.
