Black Dye from gloves

Postby robracer » Mon Jan 08, 2007 9:19 pm

I have a pair of collin's gloves 2 years old & if it rains I get black die stains on my hands & its the same deal with schwetty hands! I am sick of getting to a destination & having black hands! whats the deal here you spend lots of $ on good gear & it does this!

I have had other pairs before that have done this but I had put it down to cheap gear & therefore poor quality

So the question is should I bung em in the wash until there is no dye left?
Has anyone done this before? will the soaking destroy my gloves? not that I care anymore about this pair as they give me the sh*ts.

Buy gloves made from black cows. They don't need to add dye to the leather then. :)

It happens no matter what gloves you wear when they get soggy the dye runs.

Could try a different color. lol

If it's pissing you off real bad wear a thin pair of cotton undergloves available at BOC Gas & Gear stores for about a dollar a pair

Pink for that flesh coloured look I reckon. I own 2 pairs of gloves personally and both cheapies yet never had the dye run either via sweating or rain so I guess I must be lucky...

I thought so too until I got some DriRiders - they didn't run. Neither the summer, nor the winter ones.
So I don't think it's a matter of price (the summer ones were only $40 I think), I think it's just a matter of brand and how well they set the dye.
I think Rivet are ok too. Dave#3 and Cath use them and I don't think they've complained.

I've got some dririders and they run on a sweaty day, never mind when they get wet.

I've been told the thing to look for is if they've been drum dyed, as then they aren't meant to run.

soak in salt water overnight, then soak in normal clean water, then hang it out to dry.

I've got Nitro gloves for summer and DriRider's for winter - don't get black hands with either.

I got dri-riders xtreme (winter) n they n constantly gimme black hands. They are 2 yrs old, but they are so comfy... I just put up with it.

Got new ones (summer) waiting for the sweaty or rainy moments... to see if they blacken me as well.
